Territorial space is an important place for human survival and development, and a fundamental guarantee for social and economic development.Since the Anthropocene, rapid changes in the global spatial layout have brought about economic growth and improved social wellbeing. However, uncontrolled spatial expansion and resource consumption have brought great challenges to the stability and sustainability of ecosystems. With the deepening of people’s understanding of the relationship between social economy, resources and environment, the concept of green economy continues to evolve, and green development is paid more and more attention. As the largest developing country in the world,China has accelerated its industrialization and urbanization since the end of the 20 th century, and is faced with severe challenges such as chaotic spatial layout, uneven structural ratio and ecological and environmental damage. In order to alleviate the contradiction between territorial space, scientific optimization of territorial space layout and coordinated development of territorial space functions have become the focus of attention in promoting high-quality sustainable development of social economy. The economic and ecological status of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is important in China. It is the most important East-west axis for national land development and a national demonstration belt for highquality development. With the rapid development of its social economy, problems such as ecological destruction and disorderly development of territorial space have become increasingly prominent. The incoordination of the development of territorial space functions has seriously restricted the sustainable development of the region. An orderly and coordinated territorial spatial order in the Yangtze River Economic Belt needs to be constructed urgently.Clarifying the spatial characteristics of the terrestrial space and the coordination status of functions and development laws is the basis and prerequisite for optimizing the spatial pattern of the terrestrial space.Under this background, this study takes 130 prefecty-level cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt as the research area, uses land use data, social and economic statistics data, based on the perspective of production, life and ecological function, uses mechanical balance model, geographic detector model, etc.Based on the research idea of "system feature-structure evolution-function recognition-cooperation/tradeoff discrimination-dynamic mechanism-function regionalization-differential optimization",relevant researches are carried out.The main research contents and conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)The territorial space shows a more obvious geographical hierarchical distribution characteristic in the topographic gradient. The low and middle terrain zones are the dominant distribution zones of production and living space;the high terrain zones are the dominant distribution zones of ecological space. With the increase of altitude and slope, the area of production and living space is shrinking, and the area of ecological space is expanding.(2)Since 2000,the territorial space has changed more drastically. In terms of time sequence, the area of living space tends to increase, the area of production and ecological space tends to decrease, but ecological space always dominates.Spatially, the geographical differentiation of territorial space is more obvious and the differentiation pattern is more solid, with production space mainly distributed in the middle and lower reaches, living space mainly distributed in the lower reaches and ecological space mainly distributed in the middle and upper reaches. The intertransformation of territorial space is more frequent, and the transformation trajectory is diversified.(3)The production, living and ecological functions of the territorial space tend to advance in the direction of high level, and the regional imbalance in the development of functions is more significant, but with a weakening trend. The production and living functions basically form a high-value cluster mainly in the long triangle;the ecological function is mainly a high-value cluster in western Yunnan and eastern Zhejiang ecoregions. The pattern of the cold spot zone is highly variable and has phased characteristics.Production and living functions expand significantly along the southwest direction, and ecological functions expand significantly along the northeast.(4)The synergy of production, living and ecological functions in the Yangtze River Economic Belt shows an overall development trend toward a high level in time, forming a local "highland" of piecemeal coordination, and a gradient divergence of coordination from west to east in space.(5)From 2000 to 2020,the territorial space of the Yangtze River Economic Belt shows an evolutionary trend of ecological function-led,production function-led and ecological function-led,and the ratio of each type of zone in terms of quantity turns from imbalance to balance. The synergistic municipal regions need to be guided by the concept of highquality development and continue to promote the synergistic development of production, living and ecological functions.Weighing the municipalities, there is an urgent need to adopt targeted optimization strategies to take advantage of the strengths and complement the weaknesses to enhance the synergistic development of production, living and ecological functions. The study provides a theoretical reference for promoting the sustainable use of territorial resources and high-quality regional development.
