The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed a strategic deployment to accelerate the development of the digital economy and promote the integrated development of the digital economy and the real economy.In the process of manufacturing industry development,combining with information and communication technology to form digital production,promoting its high-end,intelligent,and green development has become the main direction of China’s manufacturing modernization.At the same time,innovation,as the first driving force for development,is the most crucial link in the process of achieving high-end and intelligent development in the manufacturing industry.Digital technology not only optimizes and upgrades various production links in traditional industries and transforms traditional industrial production models,but also provides new innovative research and development models for industrial innovation.In this context,this article uses data from the World Input Output Database to measure the degree of digital empowerment in China’s manufacturing industry based on the input output method,and explores the impact of digital empowerment on innovation in the manufacturing industry.Through empirical research,this article finds that digital empowerment has a significant positive impact on innovation in China’s manufacturing industry,and this conclusion is still valid after endogenous processing and robustness testing.The scale effect of the manufacturing industry and the ability to transform industry achievements are important channels for digital empowerment to affect innovation in the manufacturing industry,namely,the improvement of the degree of digital empowerment in the manufacturing industry,This will enable the industry to better play its scale effect,improve its ability to transform industry achievements,and thereby have a positive impact on industry innovation.In addition,through heterogeneity research,this article finds that there are significant differences in the impact of digital empowerment on industry innovation with different levels of technological factor intensity,as well as the impact of digital empowerment from different sources on industry innovation.From the perspective of technological factor intensity,digital empowerment has a significant impact on innovation in technology intensive industries in the manufacturing industry,while its impact on non technology intensive industries is not significant;From the perspective of digital input sources,digital empowerment from both domestic and foreign digital input sources has a significant positive impact on manufacturing industry innovation,and digital empowerment from foreign digital input sources has a strong driving effect on manufacturing industry innovation.Finally,based on the conclusions,this article provides corresponding suggestions for the government on how to better promote the digitization of the manufacturing industry and how the manufacturing industry can better utilize digital technology.
