| Manufacturing industry plays an important role in the national economy,and its development level can reflect a country’s comprehensive national strength and competitiveness.Since the reform and opening up,China has become the only developing country in the world with a complete industrial system and a complete range of industries.The development of the manufacturing industry has achieved unprecedented brilliant achievements.The development of manufacturing industry has made unprecedented achievements.However,with the impact of many factors such as global economic downturn and COVID-19 in recent years,China’s manufacturing industry is also facing development bottlenecks and serious challenges.The report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China clearly pointed out that "China’s economy has shifted from a stage of rapid growth to a stage of high-quality development,and we must adhere to the supply-side structural reform as the main line to improve the total factor productivity of the manufacturing industry".The so-called total factor productivity refers to the part that the output can still increase when the input of all production factors remains unchanged.It is one of the criteria to judge whether a manufacturing enterprise can achieve high-quality development and the effect of transformation and upgrading,and it is also a comprehensive reflection of the role of technological progress in economic development.To improve the total factor productivity of China’s manufacturing industry,it is necessary for the manufacturing industry to find new growth points.Fundamentally,we should improve the total factor productivity at the micro enterprise level and the macro aggregate level.China’s manufacturing enterprises need to adapt to the development of the times,develop new demand with new supply,pursue new profits with new technology,cultivate new power with new structure,and promote new growth with new models.In this context,it is of theoretical and practical significance to study the impact of manufacturing industry upgrading on total factor productivity of manufacturing enterprises.From the perspective of theoretical research,the current academic research on the impact of manufacturing industry upgrading on manufacturing total factor productivity is still relatively scarce.Therefore,this paper attempts to take the upgrading of industrial structure as the main variable to study the impact mechanism of manufacturing industrial upgrading on manufacturing total factor productivity,so as to improve the study of total factor productivity and industrial upgrading.From a practical point of view,looking for factors that affect the total factor productivity of manufacturing enterprises and exploring ways to improve the total factor productivity of manufacturing enterprises can help manufacturing enterprises realize the transformation from low-end manufacturing to medium-high end manufacturing,thus improving the competitiveness of manufacturing enterprises in China and creating more value for the economic and social development of China.In view of the above,this article combs the existing relevant research literature through literature analysis,summarizes the existing research results of total factor productivity theory,industrial structure upgrading theory,and gradient transition theory,and analyzes the development status of China’s manufacturing industry from the perspectives of the distribution of manufacturing enterprises,regional distribution of total factor productivity of manufacturing enterprises,and industry distribution.Taking China’s A-share manufacturing listed companies as the research object,combining the data obtained from China’s Industrial Economic Statistical Yearbook and several professional databases as the data source,the paper establishes an econometric model to conduct empirical research on the impact of manufacturing industry upgrading on the total factor productivity of manufacturing enterprises.The data were regressed and verified with stata16 statistical analysis software.The empirical results are analyzed according to the data obtained,including benchmark analysis,mechanism analysis and the heterogeneity impact analysis of regression results.On the basis of the above empirical research,the main conclusions of the impact of manufacturing industry upgrading on total factor productivity of manufacturing enterprises are drawn as follows:1.The industrial upgrading of manufacturing enterprises in the region has a positive impact on total factor productivity of manufacturing enterprises;2.Increasing R&D investment by manufacturing enterprises will promote the positive impact of industrial upgrading on total factor productivity;3.The promotion effect of industrial upgrading on the total factor productivity of manufacturing enterprises will be affected by the region,which is more significant in the eastern and central regions of China than in the western region.The innovation of this paper is mainly reflected in:1.Study the impact mechanism of manufacturing industry upgrading on total factor productivity of manufacturing enterprises;2.Research the factors that affect the total factor productivity of manufacturing enterprises at the company level;3.At the regional level,study the impact of manufacturing industry upgrading in different regions on the total factor productivity of manufacturing enterprises in the region.Finally,according to the previous research,the following policy recommendations are given:1.Further deepen the system reform and optimize the efficiency of resource allocation of manufacturing enterprises;2.Encourage technological innovation of manufacturing enterprises and promote the deep integration of new generation information technology and manufacturing industry;3.Rationally optimize the spatial layout of the manufacturing industry and promote the collaborative high-quality development of the manufacturing industry. |
