Digital Economy,industrial Structural Upgrading Of Manufacturing Industry And Total Factor Productivity Growth

General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that the Chinese economy has entered a new era,characterized by a shift towards high-quality development.As the foundation of the nation,the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry directly impacts the overall development of the economy and society.The growth of total factor productivity(TFP)in manufacturing,as a core indicator of high-quality development,is of paramount importance.As the new engine of China’s economic and social development,the digital economy provides an opportunity for manufacturing enterprises to achieve high-quality development through deep integration with technologies such as the internet,big data,and artificial intelligence.This integration can help address the current situation of large but weak manufacturing industries in China and upgrade the industrial structure of manufacturing.The digital economy has important practical significance in improving TFP,optimizing resource allocation,upgrading industrial structures,and promoting high-quality development in manufacturing.The integration of the digital economy and manufacturing will change the production methods and organizational forms of manufacturing,injecting new impetus into high-quality development.This paper first systematically reviews relevant literature on the impact of the digital economy on TFP in manufacturing,the impact of the digital economy on the upgrading of the manufacturing industry structure,and the impact of the upgrading of the manufacturing industry structure on TFP.Definitions of relevant concepts are then provided,and the paper analyzes the theoretical impact of the digital economy on TFP growth in manufacturing and presents research hypotheses.The paper then conducts scientific calculations of the development of the digital economy,the upgrading of the manufacturing industry structure,and TFP growth.Finally,based on the calculation results,the paper employs a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis,variable substitution methods,and tests of intermediary effects to conduct empirical analysis.The results show that(1)the development of the digital economy is most constrained by the digitalization of industry,and the development of the digital economy in the eastern region of China is significantly superior to that of the western region.The digital economy in China is growing steadily.(2)TFP in manufacturing in various provinces of China exhibits a fluctuating trend but is generally improving.(3)The upgrading of the manufacturing industry structure in various provinces of China is continually improving.Based on these findings,empirical results indicate that the digital economy has a significant promoting effect on both TFP growth in manufacturing and the upgrading of the manufacturing industry structure.Controlled variables show a positive correlation between foreign investment and both TFP and the upgrading of the manufacturing industry structure,while the urbanization rate exhibits a negative correlation.The test of intermediary effects demonstrates that the digital economy can effectively promote TFP growth through the upgrading of the manufacturing industry structure.This conclusion is robust for both eastern and western provinces of China,the results of the variable substitution test are consistent with the empirical research,and the three dimensions of the digital economy have different effects,and the intermediary effects of the development environment and industry digitalization are significant,while the intermediary effect of digital industrialization is not significant.Finally,based on the empirical research of this article,policy recommendations are proposed from a practical perspective: to increase the support of the digital economy for the manufacturing industry,promote the development model of "prosperity of the advanced leading the backward",and achieve the organic integration of high-quality development of the digital economy and the manufacturing industry.
