In recent years, the Shandong provincial government has attached great importance to the development of the agricultural product processing industry, giving full play to its industrial advantages and resource advantages, and achieving agricultural efficiency enhancement, agricultural product value addition, and farmers’ income. From the perspective of spatial distribution, the agricultural product processing industry in Shandong Province has obvious industrial agglomeration characteristics. This paper firstly combines the theory of industrial agglomeration and economic growth to analyze the impact of the agglomeration of the agricultural products processing industry on economic development.Secondly, based on the perspective of spatial statistics, taking the agricultural product processing industry in Shandong Province as the research object, the Moran index is used to analyze the spatial distribution and dynamic evolution trend of the agricultural product processing industry in 16 cities in Shandong Province. Finally, using SDM model,SAR model,SEM model, and other methods to study the impact mechanism of agricultural product processing industry agglomeration on economic growth in Shandong Province, and apply the cross-multiplication item test method to the impact of agricultural product processing industry agglomeration on economic growth in Shandong Province. The spatial spillover effects are decomposed and analyzed using the random-effects model of the SDM model. The results show that:(1)The spatial autocorrelation of economic development in Shandong Province is gradually weakening, and a series of policy adjustments have little effect on the overall planning of economic development in Shandong Province. At present, the regional economic development in Shandong Province is in a balanced and stable state.Spatial correlations between regions still exist.(2)The agglomeration of the agricultural products processing industry in Shandong Province has a positive spillover effect on the economic growth of Shandong Province. For every 1% of foreign investment introduced, economic growth will increase by 1.014%,and for every 1% increase in transportation convenience, economic growth will increase by 0.252 %.(3)The agglomeration of the agricultural products processing industry in this region of Shandong Province can have a positive spatial spillover effect on the economic development of neighboring cities by improving transportation convenience.(4)The agglomeration of the agricultural products processing industry has positively promoted the economic growth of 16 cities and neighboring cities in Shandong Province by improving transportation convenience, improving education level, increasing the labor force, strengthening financial support for agriculture, and introducing foreign capital.effect.However,the intervention of the Shandong provincial government will harm the economic growth of this city and its neighboring cities, indicating that the intervention of the local government cannot reasonably allocate the agricultural product processing industry resources, resulting in a negative impact on the overall economic development of Shandong Province. Therefore, governments at all levels in Shandong Province must formulate reasonable and efficient policies to optimize resource allocation, maximize the "matching effect" of factors, and then promote economic development.(5)The agglomeration of the agricultural products processing industry in Shandong Province can lead to a positive spatial spillover effect on the economic development of adjacent regions through the introduction of foreign capital.Based on the empirical analysis results of the spatial econometric model, this paper puts forward practical and feasible countermeasures and suggestions for the development of agglomeration of the agricultural products processing industry in Shandong Province.
