In the context of national high-quality development,the Yellow River Basin,as an important ecological barrier and economic zone in China,is facing problems such as weak ecological foundation,serious energy path dependence and lagging socio-economic development.It is important to quantitatively assess the level of economic-ecological coupling,analyze its spatial network characteristics and introduce the convergence club perspective for the development of coupled and coordinated development in the Yellow River Basin.Therefore,based on the theory of coupled and coordinated development and the theory of club convergence,this paper,based on the panel data of 75 cities in the Yellow River Basin from 2003 to 2019,firstly,constructs the economic quality development index system and ecological protection index system from three dimensions of economic level,social level and cultural services and ecological pressure-state-response dimension respectively,and adopts the vertical and horizontal scatter grade method and fixed base efficacy method Then,the spatial correlation network between ecological protection and economic quality coupling is calculated and analyzed,and the spatial pattern of the convergence club of ecological protection and economic quality coupling and its evolution is analyzed by using traditional Markov chain and Markov chain of spatio-temporal network.Finally,a diagnostic model is used to identify the factors that hinder the coordinated development of ecological conservation and economic quality coupling in the Yellow River Basin.The main conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)The index of ecological protection and the index of economic quality development in the Yellow River Basin have increased significantly,but the spatial incongruity between economic quality and ecological quality is significant.The ecological protection index is the highest in the upper reaches but the economic quality development index is the lowest,while the middle and lower reaches have superior resource endowments and significant economic benefits but face problems such as population pressure,land development,energy consumption and environmental pollution.From the perspective of the seven major urban agglomerations along the Yellow River,the ecological and economic fit of the Shandong Peninsula urban agglomeration is better than that of the other six urban agglomerations.(2)The coordinated development of ecological protection and economic quality in the Yellow River Basin shows a steady but declining trend.There are more intermediate coupled and coordinated cities but also a decreasing trend,fewer high-quality coupled and coordinated cities are also still decreasing,and the number of primary coupled and coordinated cities is increasing year by year.Spatially,the coupling coordination coefficient of the downstream Shandong Peninsula urban agglomeration has declined significantly.(3)The coordinated development of ecology and economy among cities in the Yellow River Basin forms a spatial correlation network,but the spatial correlation is low.The coordinated development of ecological protection and economic quality in the Yellow River Basin can be divided into four sections.The first plate is the " main benefit plate," composed of cities in the upper and middle reaches of the Yellow River;the second plate is ’ broker plate ’,66.67 % of the cities located in the lower reaches of the Yellow River,playing an intermediary and bridge role.The third sector is the " net spillover sector," which is composed of upstream cities providing ecological services and midstream cities guaranteeing resource supply;the fourth plate is the ’ two-way overflow plate ’ composed of Shandong and Henan parts of the city.(4)The coordinated development of ecological protection and economic quality in the Yellow River Basin has formed five convergence clubs: low,medium-low,medium,medium-high and high levels.The high-level convergence club is formed in Inner Mongolia and Yinchuan,Taiyuan,Jinan,Xi ’ an and Lanzhou.The medium-high level coupling coordination convergence clubs are scattered in the middle and lower reaches of cities.The medium level coupling coordination convergence club members are more dispersed,composed of a few cities in Shanxi,Shandong and Henan.The low-medium coupling coordination convergence club covers some cities in Henan,Shaanxi and Shandong.Low-level convergence club members are concentrated in Henan and Gansu.In addition,there are differences in convergence clubs formed by the coordinated development of ecological protection and high-quality coupling in the Yellow River Basin under different types of neighbors.Higher levels of neighbors are conducive to the upward transformation of low-level convergence clubs.When adjacent to low-level neighbors,it is easy to form a low,medium-level city downward transfer;when adjacent to the middle level neighbors,it is easy to form the upward transfer of low-level cities;when adjacent to high-level neighbors,it is conducive to coupling coordination convergence club stability.(5)The main factors hindering the coupled and coordinated development of ecological protection and economic quality in the Yellow River Basin are the urbanization rate,the average wage of employees on the job in each place/wage level in the basin,the number of beds in health institutions per 1,000 population,Internet penetration rate,road mileage per capita,and the number of books in public libraries per 100 people.
