With the development of the country’s economy, people’s demand for quality of life is increasing, and so is the demand for fresh agricultural products.Under the influence of consumer attitudes, the new retail business model covers all aspects of life, and the integration of online and offline sales methods has widened the purchasing channels and shortened the last-mile delivery range. At the same time, people are paying more attention to the quality and freshness of fresh agricultural products. Therefore,in the context of new retail, the cold chain logistics and distribution is facing greater competition and challenges around the higher demands of consumers for fresh agricultural products. This paper collects and analyses information on the cold chain distribution of fresh agricultural products, compares the cold chain distribution system under the new retail context with the traditional cold chain distribution system and summarises the problems that exist in cold chain distribution.Combined with the analysis of Company H’s business operation system, the problems that exist in the company’s distribution business are derived, and optimization ideas are provided for Company H’s development in new retail cold chain distribution. For the cold chain logistics distribution optimisation model, under the current situation where the minimisation of distribution costs is the main consideration and less attention is paid to satisfaction, the minimisation of the total cost of distribution with reduced carbon emissions is proposed. The cost of carbon emissions is considered for the total cost of distribution on the basis of fixed costs, fuel costs and refrigeration costs, and the construction of the satisfaction function takes into account not only the time window factor but also the influence of freshness. The satisfaction function is improved by using the grey-scale whitening weight function to more accurately represent the satisfaction level of distribution. The cold chain distribution model with dual objectives of distribution cost and satisfaction is finally established to help enterprises to effectively reduce distribution costs while improving the efficiency and overall level of distribution. In the model solving process, the firefly algorithm is used and improved.A relative fluorescence brightness scaling factor is introduced,a random movement of fireflies is designed to constrain the brightest fireflies, and an adaptive step size strategy and population differential evolution are used to facilitate global optimisation and avoid the problems of local optimisation and premature convergence. The optimal distribution route for the demanded shops is obtained by solving the distribution path for 25 shops of company H as an example. The results of the improved Firefly algorithm are compared with those of the firefly algorithm, the particle swarm algorithm and the genetic algorithm to demonstrate the advantages of the improved firefly algorithm in terms of optimisation finding ability and solution efficiency when solving multi-objective optimisation models, and to verify the effectiveness of the improved firefly algorithm. In addition,in order to analyse the impact of changes in various factors on route optimisation in the actual distribution process, sensitivity analysis is carried out on two parameters, namely unloading rate and number of demand shops, and the results are applied to distribution operations, which is of practical significance for reducing enterprise logistics costs and improving customer satisfaction.
