| During public health events, the government,as a source of information, needs to provide timely and accurate information for the media and the public, while the media,as the intermediary of information circulation, needs to accurately transmit these information to the public. The public panic during the COVID-19 epidemic once again reminds us that we need to pay attention to the risk amplification caused by information circulation under the background of major social risks. This provides an opportunity to explore the unique risk amplification of Chinese media. At the same time,in order to reflect the overall information flow during the epidemic, this thesis attempts to introduce the agenda-building theory into the risk amplification research. Therefore, this thesis will examine the risk amplification of media from the perspective of agenda-building.This thesis deduces the analysis frameworks from the risk society amplification framework and agenda-building theory, and sets the judgment standards of risk amplification. Then, taking media reports and information subsidies provided by official sources during the COVID-19 epidemic as the research objects. The correlation coefficient is used to determine whether the agendas of media reports and information subsidies are related. If so,the proportion of related contents will be compared according to analysis framework, determining whether media reports amplify risks compared with information subsidies. It is found that the information subsidy agenda is significantly transferred to the media agenda, and the media enlarges the risks in the agenda of issues and networks. For risk amplification,market-oriented media is higher than party media to some extent, and new media is also higher than traditional media to some extent.Besides, there are differences in risk amplification in different stages. It is also found that Chinese media have some characteristics in amplifying risks: there is no amplifying risk in uncertainty and severity;the party media(elite newspaper)has no risk of amplification;the proportion increases with the increase of attention is the action framework and responsibility attribution framework;in the agenda of network, the risk is weakened and then amplified. The results show that the official information subsidies affect the media agenda and achieves the effect of guiding public opinion. Therefore,we should pay attention to the agenda-building role of official information subsidies. At the same time, the thesis believes that the unique journalism culture is the main reason why Chinese media show their own characteristics in amplifying risks. In order to avoid the risk being amplified by the media,we can make an attempt to narrow the cognitive differences between journalists and public health officials on relevant issues.Besides, the media should think about how to avoid the risks brought by constructing stories, especially the new media should pay more attention to the accuracy of epidemic information transmission. |
