The General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council have issued the "Opinions on Further Reducing the Homework and Off campus Training Burden of Students in Compulsory Education Stage"(hereinafter referred to as "Double Reduction"),which requires effective reduction of the heavy homework and off campus training burden of students in Compulsory Education Stage. The new curriculum reform also advocates independent, cooperative, and exploratory learning methods.Primary school students cannot rely on subject based training institutions,as they have more learning time and more initiative in learning, which puts forward new requirements for students’ autonomous learning ability. The metacognition of primary school seniors is gradually developing, and their learning of mathematics is more difficult than in the middle and lower stages. This study takes primary school seniors as the research object to explore effective strategies for cultivating their mathematical autonomous learning ability.Through questionnaires, field interviews, classroom observations, and other methods, this study investigated the current situation of mathematics autonomous learning ability of senior primary school students in an economic development zone in Chongqing. After analyzing the survey data,it was found that the mathematics autonomous learning ability of senior primary school students was poor.According to the survey results and relevant theories, the causes of students’ poor autonomous learning ability in mathematics are analyzed as follows: students’ low interest in learning, lack of self management ability, and lack of learning strategies;Teachers lack advanced educational concepts, dominate the entire class, and lack the necessary autonomous learning guidance strategies;Schools, parents, and society have not formed educational synergy to cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability.Based on the actual teaching situation, the author proposes effective strategies to cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability in mathematics: for students, establish learning confidence and enhance self-efficacy;Set learning goals and enhance self monitoring ability;Stimulate learning potential and choose reasonable learning methods. As for teachers, they should learn advanced theories and improve their own qualities;Adopt diverse teaching methods to stimulate students’ interest in learning;Guiding students’ learning methods and cultivating students’ autonomous learning habits in mathematics;Encourage students to learn independently and cultivate their ability to learn independently in mathematics. In terms of family school synergy, schools establish and improve school mechanisms to enhance teacher literacy;Effectively carry out teaching and research activities to improve teachers’ skills in cultivating students’ autonomous learning ability;Hold various mathematical activities to enrich students’ positive emotional experience.Parents are committed to creating a good learning environment for their children, improving their mathematical literacy, setting a good example for their children, and cultivating their autonomous learning ability in mathematics.Based on the strategies proposed in this study,a math class was designed to test the feasibility of the strategies in teaching practice. The research on this topic can provide some theoretical and practical methods for districts and counties to improve the autonomous learning ability of primary school senior students in mathematics under the background of "double reduction",provide some reference for primary school teachers to improve teaching quality, and provide some reference for parents to cultivate their children’s autonomous learning ability in mathematics.
