In 2014,the Ministry of Education’s document "Guideline for Improving the Excellent Chinese Traditional Culture" specifically calls for "education on family and national sentiments with the focus on the rise and fall of the world and the responsibility of the individual";the "Guidelines for Integrating Excellent Chinese Traditional Culture into Primary and Secondary School Curriculum and Teaching Materials" issued in 2021 also specifies that The curriculum and teaching materials issued in 2021 are also pointed out "a significant increase in the educational function of cultivating Chinese cultural heritage,nurturing family and national sentiments,enhancing social care,improving personality cultivation,and forging a sense of Chinese national community,so that students’ cultural self-confidence is more firmly established".In the language curriculum standards,the teaching objectives and contents of the textbooks reflect the educational requirements of family and national sentiment,and the number of family and nation texts in the unified junior secondary language textbooks has increased.Based on this,the thesis takes the definition of the connotation of family and national sentiment as the starting point,analyses,classifies and interprets the family and national sentiment texts in the textbooks,and develops the teaching of family and national sentiment in the form of thematic reading to enhance students’ language literacy,cultivate students’ sense of responsibility and patriotic sentiment,and cultivate family and national sentiment.The body of the thesis consists of four chapters.The first chapter provides an overview of the issues related to family and nation sentiment.It analyses the historical origins of family and nation sentiments in ancient societies and explains the modern implications of family and nation sentiments;discusses the concept of thematic reading teaching and its basic features;and explains the pedagogical significance of thematic reading teaching on family and nation sentiments in enhancing cultural confidence and improving students’ character cultivation.The second chapter is an analysis of the family and nation texts in the unified junior secondary language textbooks.In conjunction with the analysis of the connotation of family and nation sentiments in Chapter 1 of the thesis,the texts in the textbooks are divided into three dimensions: family and nation sentiments,sense of responsibility and behavioral commitment,and the number of selected texts,their distribution and text interpretation are analysis systematically in the entire set of unified junior secondary language textbooks.Chapter 3 provides strategies for teaching the theme of family and national sentiments in reading.This chapter focuses on the text of the teaching materials,supplemented by background information,appreciation and interpretation,and intertextuality reading materials to form reading teaching themes;aligning with the language curriculum standards to grasp the general direction of thematic reading teaching,integrating thematic materials to determine the specific objectives of thematic teaching,and formulating thematic teaching objectives that focus on core language literacy;focusing on creating teaching contexts during the implementation of the themes,adhering to the question-oriented approach of promoting reading through questioning,and gradually achieve in-depth reading in the text reading seminars,improving language literacy,and finally presenting the results of the topic.The fourth chapter takes the topic of female characters’ family and country sentiment in the second volume of Year 7 as an example,showing the design ideas and implementation steps of the topic of family feelings reading,and presenting teaching examples.This study combines the theory and practice of language teaching,and explores in depth the strategies and methods of teaching text reading in a thematic form.However,due to my limited research ability and lack of practical experience,the thesis still has shortcomings,nevertheless,it is hoped that this thesis will provide useful reference for front-line Chinese teachers.
