| During the Covid-19 pandemic quarantine and control,the mental health of college students has been seriously affected,and the number of people suffering from inner doubts and mental issues induced by the pandemic remains high.In order to alleviate the psychological conditions of college students,mental health education in higher education institutions has made many timely adjustments to meet the new challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic.However,due to the pandemic prevention and control conditions and other factors,little is known about whether their educational efforts have had the desired effect on students’ mental health status and how effective they have been.In order to evaluate the actual effect of mental health education in higher education institutions during the Covid-19 pandemic,this research will investigate and analyze it through literature analysis,questionnaire survey,and individual interviews,and then propose countermeasures to explore the effectiveness of mental health education and enhance the ability of higher education institutions to respond to public health emergencies.In this research,the questionnaires for students,and the questionnaires and interviews for teachers,were prepared according to the features of the Covid-19 pandemic,and the notice of the General Office of the Ministry of Education on enhancing mental health management.The questionnaires were targeted toward the students and school psychologists in five different types of higher education institutions in H city,H province,which is to study the mental health situation among college students,the effectiveness of mental health education in higher education institutions,and the mental needs of college students during the Covid-19 pandemic.The findings show that the mental health level of college students during the Covid-19 pandemic was acceptable,with slightly high scores in the dimension of fear;the overall effectiveness of mental health education in college was acceptable,with relatively low scores in the effectiveness of curriculums;the mental needs of students were more complex during the Covid-19 pandemic,inclining towards the needs of targets,contents,forms and qualities of the practitioners of mental health education in higher education institutions.Based on the above findings,The research deemed some problems in the following three aspects of mental health education in higher education institutions during the Covid-19 pandemic: curriculum,organizing and management,and mental care services,which were caused by the lagging aims of college mental health education,the lack of attention to students’ mental needs,the imperfection of institutional construction,and the insufficient ability to integrate mental health education resources during the pandemic.This research starts from the perspectives of educational concepts,curriculums,organizing and management,and mental care services,to introduce positive psychology and related theories,call for attention to students’ mental needs and foster the concept of health for students;it stresses the development of special school-based curriculum,the enrichment of curriculum contents and the improvement of online teaching quality;the improvement of the organization management system,attention to teachers’ professional development and mental health,campus culture construction and mental counseling quality,and the importance of the online platform construction. |
