ObjectiveThe purposes of the study are as follows.Firstly, through bibliometrics analysis of current research status and progress in the field of college students’ mental health under emergency public health events and understand the knowledge structure and frontiers of the study, which will provide evidence for the empirical study.Secondly,to investigate the overall status and characteristics of psychological stress, social support level, and mental health of college students in Hainan Province after the outbreak of COVID-19 and analyze correlation between the three,to clarify the main stressors, the influencing factors of anxiety and depression in the later stage of the COVID-19,which will provide theoretical basis for future health education and health promotion, and to improve the mental health of college students under emergency public health events.MethodsThis study first uses word frequency analysis, citation analysis, cluster analysis and information technology(Cite Space)in bibliometrics to quantitatively analyze the scientific research status of college students’ mental health under major emergency public health events.Secondly, using the methods of multi-stage stratified cluster sampling,Undergraduates from 8 universities in Hainan Province were surveyed by the Sources of pressure Questionnaire,GAD-7,PHQ-9 and PSSS.Based on the above data,SPSS26.0 software was used for statistical description,t-test,analysis of variance, and chi-square test to compare whether there are differences in psychological stress, anxiety, depression, and social support among college students with different characteristics after the outbreak in my country and apply rank correlation to analyze the relationship between the three;multi-factor use Logistic regression.Results1.The results of bibliometric analysis. After screening,a total of 959 valid documents(521 in Chinese and 438 in English)were obtained. The USA ranks first in foreign literature, accounted for 19.63% of the total number of publications;followed by China, accounting for 15.53% of the total number of publications;in terms of the centrality of the paper, the USA(0.43)ranked first, followed by England(0.28),Israel(0.24)and China(0.14);The research results in the field of university students’ mental health research under global emergency public health events are mainly distributed in institutions of higher learning.Among them,Huazhong University of Science and Technology ranks first in the number of foreign language documents published, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong ranks first in terms of centrality; Most of the topranked institutions with centrality come from higher education institutions in China. In the Chinese literature, the main research hotspots are medical students, interns, medical graduate students, graduates, depression, psychological stress, anxiety, negative emotions, psychological resilience, social support, cognition, and coping styles. In foreign literature, research hotspots mainly focus on anxiety, depression, stress, mental health conditions, health education, risk factors, psychological resilience, mental disorders, and awareness of emergency public health events.Exercise status, online education, and coping strategies are the new research points for the latest expansion of the field.2.Field investigation.3237 college students finally enrolled in the study. The results showed that the psychological pressure of college students in Hainan Province was at a moderate level, and employment and schoolwork are the most;the incidence of anxiety is 25.24%,the incidence of depression is 21.41%,and the social support score is(59.14±13.81).Social support is negatively correlated with psychological stress, anxiety, and depression, and the correlation coefficients are-0.364,-0.264,and-0.234,respectively.The analysis found that gender, professional type, grade, academic performance, father’s education level, mental health education carried out by schools during the epidemic, social support, and the degree of satisfaction of home learning during the epidemic are influencing factors of anxiety(P<0.05);academic performance, father educational level,self-evaluated health status, mental health education carried out by the school during the epidemic, and the degree of satisfaction with the home learning effect during the epidemic, and social support are the effects of depression Factors(P<0.05);Among them, college students who do not think that the mental health education carried out by the school has helped them have a higher risk of anxiety and depression compared with the two levels of conformity and general;during the epidemic, college students who expressed dissatisfaction with home learning effects are at higher risk of anxiety and depression compared with the two levels of satisfied and the same as before.ConclusionsThe literature on mental health research of college students under emergency public health events has shown an explosive growth after the occurrence of major emergency public health events, and the overall increase is slow year by year. The global research countries are dominated by the Americas and Asian countries.Among them, the USA occupies a leading position in the quantity, quality, and academic influence of article.China has a small gap with the USA,but lacks high-quality research;Research topics and frontiers focus on anxiety, depression, psychological stress, coping style, social support, cognition and influencing factors;Bibliometric analysis and research showed that many scholars’ research on the mental health of college students under emergency public health events is limited to the investigation of the mental health of college students at the beginning of the epidemic, and there are few studies on the monitoring major infectious diseases in the later stage of the epidemic. After the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, the psychological stress level of college students has increased slightly, and their mental health has been effectively improved.Among them, studies and employment have become the main sources of psychological pressure, while conformity with “the mental health education carried out by school during the epidemic has been very helpful to oneself” and satisfaction level with the effect of home learning in the epidemic are the influencing factors of psychological stress, anxiety, and depression of college students. The study suggest that universities should closely monitor the changes in the mental health of college students in the later stages of the epidemic, and regularly carry out health education activities to continuously improve it until they return to normal levels. In addition, colleges should increase support and recognition of college students in the process of health education and enhance their psychological coping ability.
