With the change of China’s population structure and the development of aging society, the problem of disabled and semi-disabled elderly is becoming increasingly prominent.Compared with the practical difficulties of family care, such as lack of resources and insufficient capacity, institutional endowment,as one of the modern schemes to meet the needs of the elderly, has become the way of care chosen by most modern elderly groups after disability. However, the current situation of care for disabled and semi-disabled elderly in China’s pension institutions is still mainly in life care and medical rehabilitation services, and there are still insufficient attention to mental care and social support network support. On the other hand, compared with the deeply disabled elderly, the semi-disabled elderly have a stronger demand for social interaction and social participation, while the semi-disabled elderly in the institution are plagued by their own diseases and lack of long-term companionship and support from the original family, resulting in a rapid reduction of their own social network, which is prone to social isolation problems and affects the healthy life of the elderly. In this study, the semi-disabled elderly in L City X institutions were the main research objects, and the effect of group work on improving the social isolation problem of semi-disabled elderly people in institutions was explored.Firstly, the literature research method,semi-structured interview method and participatory observation method were used to collect data to analyze the current situation, problems and causes of the social isolation problem of semi-disabled elderly people in X institutions.Secondly, under the guidance of demand theory, social support theory and energy enhancement theory,we pay attention to enhancing the sense of self-identity and communication desire of the elderly, and improve the objective social isolation environment,so as to promote the gradual solution of the social isolation problem of the semi-disabled elderly in institutions, and then promote social integration. Finally,in the stage of summarizing and reflecting on experience,it was found that there were some shortcomings in the group development process, including difficulties in the group establishment process in the early stage, difficulties in meeting the personalized needs of different elderly workers in the middle stage, insufficient intervention of external support network and limitations in the effectiveness consolidation in the later stage. The workers also reflected on the specific limitations and gave suggestions to provide reference for the later research on the social isolation of the semi-disabled elderly in institutions with group work intervention.
