As China’s aging process continues to accelerate, the elderly population is growing daily, and the size of the semi-disabled elderly is rapidly increasing. With the gradual formation of the "4-2-1" family model, the traditional family function is weakening, and institutional care is becoming the "immediate need" for the semi-disabled elderly.Nursing homes provide semi-disabled services, mainly care and medical care.Nursing homes pay less attention to the spiritual comfort needs of the semi-disabled elderly.Social work can effectively identify the spiritual comfort needs of semi-disabled elderly regarding emotional support, interpersonal interaction, and self-actualization.Therefore,this paper attempts to provide support for the semi-disabled elderly in nursing homes through social work intervention to meet the spiritual comfort needs of the semi-disabled elderly and help them achieve active aging. This study explores the effect of social work intervention by analyzing the practical process of group work intervention in the spiritual comfort of semi-disabled elderly in Y city nursing home.First, before the group work intervention, the author surveyed the current situation and needs of the semi-disabled elderly in the Y city nursing home through interview and observation methods to further assess the needs of the semi-disabled elderly in the house and to analyze the need for group work.Secondly,Maslow’s needs theory and social support theory are used as the theoretical basis to guide the design of group programs.Group work methods and techniques are used to promote the mental well-being of older people with disabilities. Finally, the effectiveness of the intervention of the group work is explored through a combination of process and outcome assessment, and the intervention is summarized. This study found that group work interventions for the spiritual comfort of semi-disabled elderly in nursing homes were effective.By identifying the specific needs of the semi-disabled elderly in nursing homes regarding spiritual comfort, social workers can meet the spiritual comfort of the elderly to a certain extent through group work methods and techniques. However, the effectiveness of group work is affected to some extent due to the limited selection of group members, the single mode of intervention, and the short period of activities.
