Action Research On Improving The Scientific Inquiry Ability Of Older Children Using Nature-themed Picture Book

Abstract/Summary:
Children’s scientific inquiry ability is a key factor to promote the development of their scientific literacy,and also a necessary preparation to ensure that children can successfully enter primary school to learn science.However,there is not much research on scientific inquiry ability in preschool education at present.In practice,kindergartens also do not pay enough attention to the cultivation of scientific inquiry ability of children in large classes.Therefore,this study attempts to take picture books with natural themes as the carrier and design and organize corresponding activities according to the development level and training status of scientific inquiry ability of children in large classes,so as to effectively improve the scientific inquiry ability of children in large classes.This study mainly adopts action research method,educational experiment method,observation method,interview method and literature method,taking Q Kindergarten in Q City as the research site,and the children in Class two of Q Garden as the main research object,and carries out a one-month preliminary survey.It is found that the use frequency of natural theme picture books in large classes is low,the development of scientific inquiry ability of children in large classes is different in each dimension,although preschool teachers can realize the importance of cultivating children’s scientific inquiry ability,there are certain limitations in the implementation path,and there is a phenomenon of "emphasizing results over process" in the organizational process.After the exploration activities,they also lack the consciousness of timely induction and reflection.Based on the research results and children’s interests and needs,this study carried out a total of three rounds of actions,namely,"Try and explore--initial use of a variety of methods to explore","consolidate and deepen--in-depth and continuous exploration to improve the ability to explore","transfer and application--comprehensive use of a variety of methods to solve problems in real life".Each round of action is based on the reflection and improvement of the previous round of action,and strive to form a spiral effect in the cycle.After three rounds of action,the children’s scientific inquiry ability in observation and comparison,experimental verification,plan recording,cooperation and communication has been improved to a certain extent.The professional ability of preschool teachers in cultivating scientific inquiry of children has been further enhanced.Therefore,this study puts forward the following suggestions: cleverly combine picture books of natural themes with the surrounding natural environment to promote children’s interest in scientific inquiry;Natural theme picture books are connected with science collective teaching activities to consolidate the improvement of children’s scientific inquiry ability;Natural theme picture books are integrated with corner activities and daily life to promote the migration of children’s scientific inquiry ability.
