In recent years, the physical health level of teenagers is not optimistic, and the growth rate of the good rate in the physical health level test of high school students is small. Some studies have shown that the physical health level of the students is closely related to the physical education level, and the change of the teaching mode of the school physical education course is conducive to the improvement of the students’ physical health level. In 2020,the Opinions on Comprehensively Strengthening and Improving School Physical Education in the New Era of the State proposed to strengthen "church, practice and regular competition",build a scientific and effective new mode of physical education and health curriculum teaching, and promote the all-round development of students. At present, optional teaching is generally implemented in high school physical education, and students’ physical health level, sports skills mastery and sports participation level are improved slowly.According to the actual situation of the teaching of high school options, the teaching method of group competition was optimized, and the optimized group competition teaching method was applied to the high school option class to explore the teaching effect of group competition teaching method in the teaching of high school badminton options and the change of students’ physical health level. This research uses literature data method, expert interview method, questionnaire survey method, experimental method and mathematical statistics.First of all,the feasibility of the optimization design of the teaching method of the group competition was determined through expert interviews, the test indicators were clearly defined, and the teaching content, teaching objectives, teaching methods and teaching evaluation of the group competition were optimized.Secondly, with the students of badminton option class of Guangzhou Peiying Middle School as the experiment object,40 students in the experiment group adopted heterogeneous group competition teaching(homogeneous and heterogeneous between groups),and 40 students in the control group adopted routine teaching experiment for 18 weeks and 36 class hours.Respectively before and after the experiment group and control students badminton special quality(one minute rope skipping, four moving pace),badminton technology(backhand ball, forehand net five indicators),class satisfaction, physical health level(height, weight, lung capacity and other seven indicators)test, comparative analysis of the differences between experimental group and control group.Finding:1.The four-point movement pace in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P <0.05).2.In the experimental group, the techniques of forehand carry, forehand strike and forehand serve were significantly higher than that in the control group(P <0.05).3.Exercise participation in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P <0.05).4.The 50-meter test performance in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P <0.05).Research conclusion:1.The teaching method of group competition has an obvious effect on the improvement of students’ special badminton mobile ability.2.The teaching method of group competition is more beneficial to the improvement of students’ skills of forehand carry, forehand strike high ball and forehand serve.3.The teaching method of group competition can better stimulate students’ participation in sports and enthusiasm in class, and improve students’ classroom satisfaction.4.The teaching method of group competition has more obvious effect on the students ’physical health level, especially reflected in the students’ speed and quality.
