Cognitive impairment, also known as "Dementia" or "Alzheimer’s disease",is one of the "health killers" of the elderly. It is a chronic progressive elderly disease caused by various factors that cause brain nerve cell damage and trigger brain function decline. This problem has not yet been solved in medicine, and has had a serious impact on the quality of life of the elderly who suffer from it.Under the influence of the change in public elderly care concepts and the special nature of cognitive impairment care, institutional elderly care has became the preferred choice for most families with cognitive impairment elderly care. The author takes Guangzhou C Nursing Home as the field of observation and research.Through participatory observation and unstructured interview methods,it is found that most caregivers in nursing homes pay attention to the physiological care of the elderly, while neglecting psychological, emotional, and spiritual care. They lack sufficient care in terms of physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and other aspects of the elderly, coupled with the unique characteristics of patients with cognitive impairment,it greatly affects the quality of life of elderly people with cognitive impairment. Therefore,in order to improve the quality of life of elderly people with cognitive impairment, this study selected the elderly with mild cognitive impairment at Guangzhou C Nursing Home as the research object, jumped out of the field of medical intervention, and used non drug intervention methods, social work professional methods, which is combining group work and case work,to shift the focus of intervention from disease treatment to improving the quality of life.Based on the perspective of the "whole person care" concept, the service plan was analyzed and formulated,Professional intervention should be carried out from two aspects: the elderly’s physical, mental, social, and spiritual abilities,as well as the improvement of their caregivers’ abilities,to effectively improve their quality of life.Through service process evaluation and outcome evaluation,it was found that non drug intervention social work professional methods can enrich the daily life of elderly people with cognitive impairment in elderly care institutions, exercise their physical functions, provide psychological and emotional care and spiritual support to the elderly, and improve the ability of caregivers. The research conclusion is that social work has a significant improvement effect on the quality of life of elderly people with mild cognitive impairment. Finally, the effectiveness and reflection of social work intervention in improving the quality of life of elderly people with cognitive impairment were explored, with the aim of enriching relevant research on improving the quality of life of elderly people with cognitive impairment through social work.
