In recent years,the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China(CPC)and the State Council have issued important documents such as the Medium-and Long-term Youth Development Plan(2016-2025)and the Implementation Outline for Patriotic Education in the New Era,all of which mention the importance of national identity for youth;General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that "for Chinese youth in the new era,love for the motherland is the the basis for establishing oneself and becoming successful." This fully reflects the great importance that the Party and the State attach to the cultivation of national identity of college students in the new era.Hosting the Olympic Games is increasingly becoming an important way for some countries to show their comprehensive national strength and thus enhance their national identity.At present,some research results in the academic field believe that hosting the Olympic Games can enhance national identity,but most of the research results are based on qualitative research methods,and fewer scholars have explored the influence path of hosting the Olympic Games on national identity through quantitative research methods for college students.As the backbone of national and social development,university students’ awareness of and support for the country are particularly important.Therefore,it is necessary to investigate the influence mechanism of national identity of college students’ group through watching the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics,so as to help college students’ group clarify the relationship between individuals and the country,strengthen their faith in the Party and the country,and promote the transformation of patriotic feelings into patriotic actions.This paper explores the influence mechanism of Beijing Winter Olympics viewing experience on national identity in depth through literature,questionnaire survey and mathematical statistics.Combined with SOR theory,social identity theory was used to construct a model of the relationship between Beijing Winter Olympic Games viewing experience,social memory and national identity.On the basis of obtaining 339 valid sample data,statistical analysis tools such as SPSS26.0 and AMOS26.0were used to process the data,and hypothesis testing was conducted on the relationship between spectator experience,social memory,and national identity through structural equation modeling.Based on the verification results,this study proposes countermeasures on how to enhance the national identity of college student groups through sports events.The following conclusions were obtained:(1)Beijing Winter Olympics sensory experience,action experience and association experience have a significant positive influence on national identity,among which sensory experience has the largest influence,association experience has the second largest influence,and action experience has the smallest influence.Emotional experience and thinking experience have no significant positive influence on national identity;(2)Beijing Winter Olympics viewing experience has a significant positive influence on social memory,among which emotional experience has the largest influence and sensory experience has the smallest influence;(3)Beijing Winter Olympics social memory has a significant positive influence on national identity;(4)Beijing Winter Olympics social memory has a mediating role between viewing experience and national identity.This result indicates that the Beijing Winter Olympics viewing experience can not only directly influence national identity,but also indirectly influence national identity through social memory.Based on the above findings,this study further puts forward the following suggestions:(1)pay attention to college students’ viewing experience and develop differentiated experience strategies;(2)build a social memory framework of sports events with Chinese stories as the main line;(3)enhance college students’ main participation consciousness and strengthen the ideal belief of love for the Party and the country.
