Under the previous dual development pattern of urban and rural areas, village schools have shown a trend of "leaving the land" in terms of culture and space, and the mutually constructed relationship between villages and primary schools is gradually disintegrating.Nowadays, rural revitalization and urban-rural integration development have become long-term strategies and policies that the country has adhered to,and the country has also invested various support in this regard. This strategy requires the coordinated efforts of various social systems, and village schools are also important organizations in the social system.Their development and survival have always been closely linked to village development. For them, rural revitalization is both a challenge and an opportunity. In this context, the positioning of existing village schools is a major issue, with "what cultural functions should village schools undertake in the future" and "how to undertake" being important sub issues. This is the theoretical basis of this study and also the research problem. This research is mainly based on the school function theory and the cultural ecology model.Firstly, the school function theory proposes that the functions of a school are reflected in three levels: individual development, organizational realization, and regional contribution. The cultural function of a school refers to the achievement of these three goals through the selection, transmission, updating, and creation of culture, which includes two dimensions: the cultural and educational function(inherent)and the social and cultural function(derivative)of the school. This study uses the division of these two dimensions and three levels as the basic framework for observing and analyzing the cultural functions of schools.Secondly, the cultural ecology model points out that the regional environment will breed unique cultural tasks, form unique local talent training needs, and eventually cultivate the next generation that meets the needs through education. Therefore, this study aims to focus on exploring the real environment of villages in the context of rural revitalization, identifying the cultural tasks of villages, and using them as the basis for envisioning the cultural functions of village schools.Based on this,This study takes Wenhua Primary School as a case study The uniqueness of this case lies in its 80 year history from its inception to the present, occupying an important position in the modernization development of the village. It has gone through a process of rapid expansion, contraction, imminent extinction, and now steady development. The village where the case is located is a traditional Bai village located at the intersection of urban and rural areas, which is the main source of funds for local rural revitalization projects. It is currently in a stage where opportunities and challenges coexist,Through in-depth analysis of the environment, including its geographical and cultural environment,as well as tracing the historical development process of Wenhua Primary School,we can truly experience its actual educational situation,in order to explore the cultural functions that village schools have played. At the same time, combined with the cultural environmental needs that arise from the opportunities and challenges of rural revitalization,we analyze the cultural functions that village schools should expand in the future,And made a simple reflection on the path to implementing the function. The main findings of the study are as follows:Firstly, since the embedding of Wenhua Primary School into the village,it has played many important cultural functions. One is to unite new administrative villages and promote the effectiveness of grassroots governance in villages;Secondly,it has updated the cultural highland of the village and increased its adaptability to the times;Thirdly, expanding the scope of education for villagers and improving their overall cultural literacy;Fourthly,it has helped the cultural adaptability of village children;Fifth,it has assisted in the construction of diverse social identities for village children.Secondly, the cultural needs of villages in the context of rural revitalization include those extracted from the traditional local culture of the village: the spirit of sharing and collective cohesion, the awareness and attitude of respecting nature, and the aesthetic guidance of festival ceremonies; It also includes those extracted from modern culture: improving information literacy and legal awareness.Thirdly, based on the reality of the village, this study makes the following prospects for the expansion of the cultural function of village schools: promoting individual development in "cultural coloring",promoting organizational realization in "cultural rescue",and achieving regional contribution in "cultural symptomatic".At the same time,in order to achieve this function,it is necessary to adhere to the principle of "being good at saving losses",in order to expand the advantages brought by the rich variety of cultural resources, high utilization rate of social resources, and strong collaborative atmosphere of "family school society" in village schools, and to make up for the development disadvantages brought by students’ cultural adaptability difficulties, small total amount of social resources, and limited parental support ability..
