Education is the foundation of a century’s plan, and teachers are the foundation of education. As a large agricultural country, the number of rural schools covers a wide range.Rural teachers account for about half of the total number of teachers in China,80% of which are rural primary school teachers. The National Strategic Plan for Rural Revitalization(2018-2022),put forward by the Office of the Central Rural Work Leading Group on February 5,2018,describes a good strategic blueprint, strengthens planning guidance, promotes the revitalization of rural industries, talents, culture, ecology and organizations in a scientific and orderly manner, and gives clear priority to the development of rural education.Since the State Council suspended the "withdrawal of schools" in September 2012,the development of rural small-scale schools has attracted considerable social attention. Most of the rural education is especially weak in small-scale schools.Rural small-scale schools are responsible for the revitalization of rural education. The main promoters and implementers of school development are teachers, and the development of teachers is deeply affected by their existence. The impact of the situation, therefore,it is of great theoretical value and practical significance to study the living conditions of rural small-scale school teachers. This study uses literature, interviews and questionnaires. On the basis of literature review, according to Alfred ERG theory,Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, this paper studies and analyses the physical, mental and professional development of teachers respectively, and divides the living conditions of teachers in small-scale rural schools into: teachers’ teaching working conditions, teachers’ salary, teachers’ family living conditions, teachers’ physical and mental health conditions.Teachers’ professional identity and professional development.Taking the small-scale rural teachers in X County of Hubei Province as the research object, this paper makes a preliminary systematic study on the survival status and influencing factors of small-scale rural school teachers in X County, collects relevant data and information, and then puts forward some strategies for improving small-scale rural schools through statistical analysis of survey data.Research and analysis show that the current living conditions of teachers in small-scale rural schools are mainly manifested in the following aspects: teachers have a strong sense of career and responsibility, and hope to cultivate students into the pillar talents needed by the country;rural teachers’ family life is relatively harmonious, especially the old teachers’ pastoral life;rural teachers’ moral integrity is noble and selfless, but the salary and welfare benefits of this group are low compared with the local material benefits. The conditions are unsatisfactory and need to be improved;the heavy burden of teaching work and the pressure of professional development lead to teachers’ poor physical and mental health;the limited space for personal development lead to teachers’ weak professional identity and unsatisfactory professional development, and their once momentum and passion are gradually weakened by social reality. In view of the environment of X County and related theories, the following suggestions are put forward: To formulate relevant policies to encourage teachers to take root in rural schools;to take a series of measures to enhance the status of rural school teachers;to strengthen the construction of conditions to ensure the healthy development of teachers’ physical and mental health;to innovate institutional mechanisms to build a two-way communication platform for teachers;to strengthen education guidance to cultivate teachers’ dedication;to create a living environment to broaden the space for teachers’ professional development. |
