Peer relationships are a pivotal component of the intricate web of interpersonal connections,and they constitute one of the most salient interpersonal relationships for junior high school students,exerting a profound influence on their physical and mental well-being and developmental trajectory.Concurrently,the level of school adaptation represents a critical benchmark for optimal growth and development among junior high school students.Adaptation serves as a fundamental prerequisite for development,and only through successful adaptation to the school environment can students attain substantiation transitioning to junior high school,the quality of peer relationships assumes a paramount role in facilitating students’ adaptation to the markedly altered milieu.Positive peer relationships can foster students’ holistic growth and facilitate their successful adjustment to school life,whereas negative peer relationships may engender maladaptive outcomes.Therefore,this study aims to use peer relationship group counseling as an intervention to improve mutual assistance,mutual trust,mutual understanding,and help students handle conflicts intelligently,thereby enabling them to better adapt to school life.This study used the "Children and Adolescents Peer Relationship Scale" and the "Adaptability Survey Questionnaire for Adolescent School Life" as research tools,surveyed507 junior high school students in a middle school in Wuhan,and used SPSS 25.0 statistical software for data analysis.Based on the research results,26 students were chosen to participate in the intervention research,with 13 students assigned to the experimental group and another 13 students assigned to the control group.A self-designed peer relationship group counseling program was used to conduct eight intervention counseling sessions for the experimental group.The specific research conclusions are as follows:(1)The peer relationship of junior high school students is at a medium-high level.The score for peer relationships among junior high school boys is notably inferior to that of junior high school girls;the score for peer relationships among junior high school students whose parents are not divorced is significantly lower compared to those whose parents are divorced;the score for relationships among junior high school students who hold the position of class cadres is significantly lower compared to those who do not hold such positions.Whether it is a single child or not,there is no significant difference in the peer relationship level of junior high school students.(2)The school adaptation of junior high school students is at a medium-high level.The school adaptation level of junior high school boys is significantly higher than that of girls;the school adaptation level of junior high school students whose parents are not divorced is extremely significantly higher than that of junior high school students whose parents are divorced;the school adaptation level of junior high school students who serve as class cadres is significantly higher than that of those who do not serve as class cadres.Whether it is a single child or not,there is no significant difference in the school adaptation level of junior high school students.(3)Junior high school students’ peer relationships are extremely significantly positively correlated with their school adaptation.(4)Junior high school students’ peer relationships can positively predict their school adaptation.(5)After group psychological counseling,experimental group scores showed significant differences,group psychological counseling can improve middle school students’ peer relationships and subsequently enhance their school adaptation level. |
