Emotional regulation is an important component of emotional intelligence that helps children adapt better to unfamiliar situations and maintain good interpersonal relationships.3-6 years of age is a critical period for the development of emotional regulation, and the importance of good parental involvement and support for this period of development cannot be overstated. At the same time,self-control is closely related to emotion regulation. To address this, this study uses self-control ability as a mediator to explore the mechanism of parental involvement and support on children’s emotion regulation ability and to further clarify the relationship between the three. In this study,a total of 668 parents of 3-6-year-old children and their teachers in 12 kindergartens in three regions of Henan Province, namely,Z,K,and P.The data collected were statistically analyzed using SPSS25.0 and AMOS24.0 software, and the results of the study are as follows.1.The level of parental involvement and support for 3-6-year-old children was more desirable, with significant differences between urban and rural areas, type of school, parental education, and per capital monthly family income.Emotional regulation ability was at a moderate to high level, with significant differences between the emotional regulation dimension and the emotional instability/negativity dimension in urban and rural areas, children’s age, mothers’ education level, and monthly per capital household income. The development of self-control ability was good, and there were significant differences in gender,age,urban/rural area, mother’s education level, and monthly per capital household income.2.There were significant positive correlations between parental involvement and support, selfcontrol ability and emotion regulation dimensions, and significant negative correlations between all of them and emotional instability/negativity dimensions.3.Parental involvement and support positively predicted the emotional regulation dimension and negatively predicted the emotional instability/negativity dimension.Parental involvement and support significantly and positively predicted self-control.Self-control positively predicted the emotional regulation dimension and negatively predicted the emotional instability/negativity dimension.4.Self-control ability and each dimension partially mediated the effect of parental involvement and support on both the emotion regulation dimension and the emotional instability/negativity dimension.Based on the above findings,in order to better promote the healthy development of young children’s emotion regulation ability, the researcher makes the following suggestions: first, grasp the critical period of young children’s emotion regulation ability development and provide them with appropriate education;second, improve the level of parental involvement and support to promote the healthy development of young children’s emotion regulation ability;third, use young children’s self-control ability to regulate the harmonious development of young children’s emotion regulation ability;fourth, improve the level of parental involvement and support to promote young children’s self-control ability, and then develop young children’s emotion regulation ability. |
