With the rapid development of the economy and society, global ecological problems have gradually emerged, and solving the threats and problems brought by global ecological pollution to human beings and building an ecological concept of harmony between human beings and nature have become one of the tasks to which governments of all countries attach great importance.General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed in the 19 th National Congress that "man and nature are a community of life",reflecting that the construction of ecological civilization has gradually become the core task of China’s social development and the fundamental national policy of the Chinese nation.Ecological education is an important way of ecological construction.By reviewing the literature and sorting out the status of research on ecological education,we find that the research on ecological education in China is at a preliminary stage, and there are very few practical studies combining with other educational theories or teaching modes. In this paper, based on the favorable guidance of STEM education concept(science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)on ecological civilization idea,we propose to apply STEM concept to ecological education implementation, aiming to make students form a strong ecological consciousness, firm and correct ecological civilization behavior, and build an ecological concept of harmonious development of human and nature under the guidance of STEM concept, and thus be able to solve ecological problems dialectically. In this regard, the main contents and results of this study are as follows: First,we analyzed the current situation, concept definition, theoretical basis of STEM and ecological education at home and abroad,as well as the feasibility, necessity, and suitability of combining the two through literature analysis.Secondly,we developed the "ecological literacy questionnaire for high school students" to test the ecological literacy level of high school students and found that high school students are lacking in four aspects: ecological knowledge, ecological awareness, ecological knowledge acquisition and ecological behavior.Third,we constructed a teaching design model of ecological education based on STEM concept, designed several teaching cases, and put them into teaching practice.Fourth, the questionnaires and tests showed that the STEM-based ecological education teaching model could help students acquire ecological knowledge, and the experimental class had a significant improvement in ecological awareness and ecological values compared with the control class.Innovation:At this stage, most of the studies combining STEM concept and biology are focused on"STEM concept on the cultivation of scientific thinking in biology" or "STEM in biology teaching practice",etc. The author searched in CNKI with the keywords of "ecological education" and "STEM concept"."Secondly, based on Professor Yu Shengquan’s STEM interdisciplinary teaching model, the author has innovatively designed a model based on STEM.Secondly, based on Professor Yu Shengquan’s STEM interdisciplinary teaching model, the author innovatively designed an ecological education teaching design process and several teaching cases based on STEM concepts, which is one of the innovations of this study. Finally, the author used the teaching process of ecological education based on STEM concept in teaching practice to test the influence of ecological education based on STEM concept on students’ ecological consciousness and behavior, and obtained conclusions to provide new ideas for front-line teachers on how to penetrate ecological education, and also to provide reference for promoting in-depth research on ecological education. This is another innovative point of this study.
