STEM is the abbreviation of four English initials of Science,Technology,Engineering and Mathematics,emphasizing the cross-integration of disciplines.Aiming at problem solving or project completion,STEM education combines the eontents of four disciplines into an organic whole,and focuses on developing students' problem awareness,scientific thinking and practical innovation ability.STEM education concept is consistent with the concept of "general high school biology curriculum standards",and is an important way to cultivate students' core literacy and innovative talents.Using literature research method,this paper firstly summarized the research status ofSTEM education at home and abroad.Secondly,the origin and development,connotation,characteristics and theoretical basis of STEM education were expounded.Following the principles of real situation,interdisciplinary knowledge integration,student-centered,diversified teaching methods,and diversified teaching evaluation,two STEM teaching cases,"Grape Wine" and "Making Healthy Kimchi",were designed.Choosing the second-year students as the research objects,biology teaching practice under the STEM education concept was executed and the teaching effect was analyzed and evaluated through questionnaire survey and formative evaluation.By analyzing students' learning outcomes,questionnaires and teaching evaluation results,the research conclusions were drawn as the following.(1)STEM education focused on student experience and practical learning,and strengthened students' hands-on ability,which was conducive to enhance students' interest in biology learning;(2)STEM Education was student-centered and used cooperative inquiry as the main learning method,which is conducive to cultivate students' self-learning,information expression,teamwork,project operation and other abilities;(3)STEM education created a real situation and was problem-oriented,making it easier for students to combine knowledge with social life,which is conducive to cultivate students' awareness and social responsibility to solve practical problems in life,and strengthen the connection between sehool learning and real life.This study supplemented the practical cases of STEM education in biology teaching,and provided a practical reference for STEM education research.
