| Due to the weakening of social relations brought about by geographical mobility, the media has become an important channel for mobile people’s cognition and social participation in their new environment, and the intervention of the media also has an impact on mobile people’s local adaptation and social participation. The migratory elderly,as a special group of mobile elderly in Hainan, have become the object of attention in the island and even in the country.Migratory elderly how this group of social interaction through the use of media, interact with the place of residence, participate in the social governance of the place of residence, the study of these issues can give Hainan on the management of migratory elderly to provide reference, but also to the study of aging society to provide more dimensions.Based on the relationship between the media use and social adaptation of migratory elderly, this paper uses participant observation and in-depth interviews to study the relationship between the media use and adaptation of migratory elderly living in Haihua Island. The study found that migratory elderly mainly use their smartphones to connect with the outside world and their distant relatives in a virtual world,so there is no significant sense of time distance and difference, which allows migratory elderly to adapt to changes in their environment more quickly. The shallow use of cell phones enables migratory elderly to achieve shallow adaptation.Migratory elderly who are more familiar with the functions of cell phones can not only use them to complete payment, search and creation, but also allow migratory elderly to interact and relate to the outside world.In-depth use of cell phones allows migratory elderly to have a wider range of interactions and deeper interactions with the outside world. In addition to cell phones, some elderly people also use TV and other means to obtain information, but more often to kill time and leisurely pastime, without making more targeted use. Therefore, television plays a minor role in the migratory elderly population and does not help migratory elderly to engage in more in-depth social adaptation and social participation. The social adaptation of migratory elderly is also influenced by factors other than the media, such as the migratory elderly’s education level, personality traits, interests, and the range of activities and number of friends. The use of media will help migrant elderly with high literacy level to better adapt and integrate into the local environment.Proper local guidance will allow migrant elderly to play a greater role and contribute to the development of their second hometown.Migrant elderly who lack guidance and are unable to use the media in depth will find it difficult to adapt to the local society, and will be influenced by resistance and stereotypes to become disconnected or even antagonistic to the local society.Based on the above findings, this thesis suggests strengthening the leadership of party building, fostering social organizations, building communication platforms, enhancing service protection, carrying out cultural and sports activities, and enriching incentives to organize and guide more migratory elderly to change their identity and play a role. |
