Homework is an indispensable link in primary and secondary school teaching in China, and it is a continuation of classroom teaching, which can consolidate the effectiveness of classroom teaching and cultivate students’ abilities. For a long time,China has been deeply influenced by Kelov’s concept of homework, which emphasizes the purpose of single knowledge and skill training, and emphasizes independent forms of homework. Its position in traditional teaching theory is quite stable, and it still widely exists in primary and secondary school teaching, especially in middle school moral and rule of law homework. In the new era,it is called for the cultivation of innovative talents.Traditional closed homework cannot meet the requirements of China’s quality education to achieve comprehensive development of students, stifling students’ creativity, and improving the quality of homework design is particularly important.Especially with the promulgation of the "double reduction" policy in 2021,a new wave of research on "reducing workload and improving quality" of homework has been sparked, and the issue of homework quality has received much attention.Open homework conforms to the requirements of the times and practical needs.Compared to traditional closed homework,it can effectively improve the quality of homework and cultivate students’ innovative spirit and ability. Therefore, this article conducts research on the design of open homework for middle school moral and rule of law courses,in order to provide reference for teachers in designing open homework. This article consists of six parts:The first part, namely the introduction, mainly introduces the research background and significance of this article;A review of open assignments and related research; Finally, the research ideas and methods of this article are presented. The second part defines open homework and its related concepts, explores the essential characteristics of open homework, including seven aspects: the openness of homework participants, the openness of homework forms, the openness of homework situations, the openness of homework content, the openness of homework questions, the openness of work ideas, and the openness of homework evaluations. It also analyzes the value of open homework. The third part mainly investigates the current situation of open homework in middle school moral and rule of law courses, using survey questionnaires and unstructured interviews. It is found that there are several problems: firstly, the homework content is rigid, which weakens students’ interest in learning;Secondly, the form of homework is single, ignoring individual differences among students; The third is the deviation in homework evaluation, which affects students’ long-term development.Exploring the reasons behind the problem,it was found that the main reasons were the lack of relevant theoretical guidance from teachers, the lack of conditions for completing open-ended assignments, and the incomplete implementation of homework evaluation reform. The fourth part mainly designs open assignments for middle school moral and rule of law courses, proposing the design requirements of highlighting Taoist and legal concepts in an open context, externalizing Taoist and legal behaviors in an open form, and respecting individual development through open evaluation. The following design principles should be followed: the unity of measurement and difference, the coordination of life and interest, the integration of activity and creativity Diversity aligns with autonomy.Under the guidance of design requirements and principles, four types of open-ended assignments were designed: FDE hierarchical assignments based on open participation subjects, life practice assignments based on open form and content, autonomous exploration assignments based on open context and ideas, and hot topic analysis assignments based on open questions. The fifth part proposes optimization strategies for the design of open homework in middle school moral and legal courses, including presenting homework content guided by open questions;Based on completion methods, improve work efficiency;Strengthen home school collaboration with student participation as the core;Focusing on core competencies and improving comprehensive qualities,we hope to use this as a starting point to continuously optimize the design of open assignments in our discipline or other disciplines. The sixth part, which is the end of this article, mainly summarizes the previous text and proposes research prospects. The open-ended homework designed in this article for the middle school ethics and rule of law discipline aims to provide some reference for the future homework design of ethics and rule of law teachers. It is also hoped that more scholars can pay attention to open-ended homework and gradually establish scientific and authoritative theories.
