In recent years, there has been a lot of negative news related to de facto orphans, and the mental health of de facto orphans has received a lot of attention from society.De facto orphans, due to the lack of parental companionship, often perceive more external discrimination than their peers.Perceptions of discrimination can create tensions in schools and groups, affect the academic achievement and social status of de facto orphans, and are an important part of their self-identity,which can seriously affect their psychological health.Mental health education is commonly used as the main preventive and control measure in schools and society, and although it has some effect,it has limited effect on specific groups of people. How to weaken external discrimination more precisely and help de facto orphans improve their psychological depression level in a targeted manner with the help of the professional theoretical system of social workers is an important social work issue. This study consists of two parts: the first part is an empirical study of the mechanisms influencing psychological depression in de facto orphans;the second part is a group work intervention implementation based on the empirical study. In the empirical part of the study, three variables, namely perception of discrimination,self-esteem and psychological resilience, were investigated as influencing mechanisms of psychological depression according to psychological stress theory.Using questionnaires, regression analyses and chain mediation tests were conducted on the collected questionnaire data in an attempt to demonstrate the relationship between perceptions of discrimination and psychological depression among de facto orphans,as well as the chain mediation role of self-esteem and psychological resilience. The study found that perceptions of discrimination were positively associated with depression among de facto orphans. In addition,self-esteem and psychological resilience mediated the chain between perceptions of discrimination and psychological depression.Based on research into the mechanisms of depression in de facto orphans, six group activities were conducted: "Saying hello to strangers","Being the master of emotions","Finding ways of perceiving and reshaping the new me","Shining me","Overcoming frustration and maturing" and "Consolidating achievements and moving into the future",Six group activities were carried out: "Shining me","Overcoming setbacks and maturing" and "Consolidating achievements and moving into the future".The aim is to reduce the perception of discrimination, increase the level of self-esteem and psychological resilience of the de facto orphans through changing the cognitive approach, dealing with emotions positively, increasing self-confidence and expanding interpersonal communication, thus improving the psychological depression of the de facto orphans and extending the effectiveness of the group work intervention. The results of the group activity were evaluated and showed that the discrimination perceptions and depression scores of the group members decreased significantly compared to the first time, indicating that the group activity was effective.
