Artificial intelligence is a strategic technology leading a new round of technological and industrial transformation,and its development will certainly have a profound impact on the labor market,and thus on the gender wage gap.Artificial intelligence is widely used in various fields,and while promoting the development of various industries,it has also largely promoted the adjustment and upgrading of China’s industrial structure.Therefore,this thesis studies the effects and mechanisms of the impact of AI applications on the gender wage gap based on the perspective of industrial structure upgrading,in which industrial structure upgrading defines the connotation from two aspects: industrial structure advanced and industrial structure rationalization.Firstly,in the introductory section,the background of the study and the significance of the study are explained.The literature on the impact of AI applications on the gender wage gap is firstly sorted out,followed by the relevant literature on the impact of AI applications on industrial structure upgrading and the impact of industrial structure upgrading on the gender wage gap.By summarising the relevant domestic and international literature,the research object of the article is identified,while the research content and methodology are introduced and the research framework is mapped out,and finally the research innovations and research shortcomings are explained.In the theoretical foundation section,the concepts of AI application,industrial structure upgrading and gender wage gap are first defined in turn,and then the relevant theories of AI application,industrial structure upgrading and gender wage gap are introduced in turn.In the theoretical analysis section,the effect of AI applications on the gender wage gap is firstly explored,followed by an exploration of the impact mechanism of AI applications on the gender wage gap from the perspective of industrial structural upgrading,and the corresponding research hypotheses are proposed.In terms of empirical research,indicators to measure AI applications are constructed and measured,and the gender wage gap is measured based on the Mincer wage equation.After data matching using the CFPS database and the CGSS database,there is a serious lack of data for Xinjiang,Tibet,Ningxia,Inner Mongolia and Hainan,and in view of data availability and the fact that the micro database is currently only updated to 2018,this paper uses the 2010-2018 panel data of 26 provinces and cities in China as the sample for examination,and empirically test the research hypothesis of this paper through theoretical analysis and empirical research using the benchmark regression model and the mediation mechanism model.The empirical study found that: first,there is a significant negative effect of AI applications on the gender wage gap,i.e.,AI applications will alleviate the gender wage gap;second,there is a negative mediating mechanism of industrial structure upgrading in the process of AI applications on the gender wage gap,i.e.,AI applications promote industrial structure upgrading,which in turn reduces the gender wage gap;third,from the perspective of eastern,central and western regions Third,regional heterogeneity analysis was conducted from the perspective of eastern,central,and western regions,and the results showed that the negative effect of AI applications on gender wage gap in different regions increased in the order of "eastern-central-western".Based on the findings,this paper proposes policy recommendations for narrowing the gender wage gap in China in three aspects: playing the role of government guidance,accelerating the process of industrial structure upgrading,and promoting balanced development. |
