The report to the Party’s 20 th National Congress mentioned the need to comprehensively promote rural revitalization, give priority to agricultural and rural development, adhere to urban-rural integrated development, and smooth the flow of factors of production between urban and rural areas.Migrant workers,as one of the most important factors of flow between urban and rural areas, have been the focus of attention from all walks of life.Since the rural revitalization strategy was put forward at the 19 th National Congress, all sectors of society have taken substantial actions to promote rural development and attract rural migrant workers back to their hometowns. At the beginning of 2020,the outbreak of COVID-19 had a huge impact on migrant workers’ work and employment, forcing some of them to return to their hometowns.Under the above dual influence, more migrant workers choose to work in their hometowns. The employment of migrant workers returning to their hometowns has become an important issue in the issue of agriculture, rural areas and farmers. After returning to their hometowns, migrant workers need to find new jobs. When faced with employment choices, what form of employment they choose becomes a problem, and what factors affect their employment choices? The answers to these questions need to be clear. In this paper, the literature research method and quantitative analysis method are used to analyze the influencing factors of local and nearby employment by using the data of returning migrant workers screened in the 2018 China Labor Dynamics Survey(CLDS).This paper is divided into six parts: the first chapter introduces the research background, research purpose and significance, research content and methods, research innovation and shortcomings. The second chapter defines the concepts involved in this paper, combs the existing domestic and foreign literature on the employment of returning migrant workers, and establishes the theoretical system of this paper. The third chapter combines the relevant data to carry on the research design.Chapter four analyzes the characteristics of local and nearby employment of migrant workers returning to their hometowns according to the data of China Labor Dynamics Survey(CLDS)in 2018.The fifth chapter uses CLDS2018 data and multiple Logistic model to make an empirical analysis of the influencing factors of the local and nearby employment choice of returning rural migrant workers from the aspects of individual factors, family factors and village factors. The sixth chapter puts forward reasonable countermeasures and suggestions based on the conclusion of the above empirical research results.According to the empirical research results, the following conclusions are drawn in this paper: First,in terms of employment choice, there are three main employment options for returning migrant workers to stay in the countryside(farming in the village, engaging in other non-agricultural work in the village, and working in the town or county). Those who choose farming are the most, accounting for 55.69%.Secondly,the farming group was taken as the reference group. In terms of the factors affecting the local and nearby employment of returning rural migrant workers, basically all the factors had a significant impact on the choice of other nonagricultural work in the village, with both positive and negative effects.Gender, age, education level, agricultural production experience, total family income, cultivated land area, technical training in agricultural production, and distance from the village to the nearest county/county government have significant effects on the choice of returning rural migrant workers to work in the town or county.Health status, new rural cooperative medical care, interpersonal skills, family size, the number of enterprises in the village and the topography of the village have no influence on the choice of migrant workers to work in the town or county. In view of the above conclusions, this paper puts forward some suggestions: increase the income of those who return to rural areas to work in rural areas, expand employment channels; We will improve the ability of rural migrant workers who have returned to their hometowns to provide employment training and education. We will protect the rights and interests of rural migrant workers who have returned to their hometowns and improve the employment guarantee mechanism. We will improve infrastructure conditions in villages for rural migrant workers who have returned to their hometowns and stay there, and make them more attractive for employment. The marginal contribution of this paper is mainly reflected in a new perspective of analysis to discuss the employment of migrant workers returning to the countryside.Focusing on farmers with rural household registration and rural areas, who have more than half a year’s migrant work experience and do not plan to return to the city after returning to their hometown, this paper analyzes the factors affecting the local and nearby employment of migrant workers returning to their hometown with the help of 2018 CLDS data.It is of great significance for alleviating the problems of agriculture and rural areas, promoting the employment of migrant workers and helping the economic development of rural areas. It also provides a new research Angle and beneficial thought for the research on the employment behavior of migrant workers returning to rural areas.
