| Social anxiety is a common interpersonal problem that more often appears in early adolescence and can affect junior high school students’ peer relationships and interpersonal adaptation,which in turn affects their mental health,and having good interpersonal relationships is crucial for junior high school students.This study was divided into two parts.Study 1 used the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescent,sEMBU for Chinese,the Self-Esteem Scale,and the Adolescent Interpersonal Communication Self-Efficacy Scale to conduct a questionnaire survey on 1517 junior high school students in Anhui,Fujian,and Hunan provinces to explore the relationship between parental rearing patterns,self-esteem,social self-efficacy,and social anxiety among junior high school students.In Study 2,40 junior high school students were selected based on Study 1,and divided into an experimental group and a control group,in which 20 students in the experimental group received group counseling for eight weeks and the control group did not receive any counseling.The findings were as follows.(1)Middle school students’ social anxiety was at the lower to middle level,middle school students’ self-esteem was at the upper to middle level,middle school students’ social self-efficacy was at the upper to middle level,and middle school students’ parents were more inclined to use positive parenting styles.(2)Middle school students’ social anxiety,self-esteem,father and mother emotional warmth,and father rejection differed significantly by gender.Social avoidance and distress in unfamiliar situations,self-esteem,social self-efficacy,and father emotional warmth of junior high school students differed significantly by gender.Middle school students’ father and mother emotional warmth and self-esteem differed significantly between only children and non-only children.Middle school students’ social anxiety,self-esteem,social self-efficacy,and rejection of father and mother differed significantly on grade level.Social anxiety,self-esteem,social selfefficacy,and parental rearing patterns of junior high school students differed significantly between parenting literacy levels.(3)Parental emotional warmth was significantly negatively related to middle school students’ social anxiety,and significantly positively related to middle school students’ self-esteem and social self-efficacy.Parental rejection and overprotection were significantly and positively correlated with social anxiety and negatively correlated with self-esteem and social self-efficacy of junior high school students.(4)Junior high school students’ self-esteem mediated the relationship between parental rearing patterns and social anxiety.(5)Social self-efficacy of junior high school students mediated the relationship between parental rearing patterns and social anxiety.(6)Junior high school students’ self-esteem and social self-efficacy play a role in mediating the chain between parental rearing patterns and social anxiety.(7)Group counseling on social self-efficacy had a significant effect on reducing social anxiety in junior high school students. |
