| Sleep problems in adolescents have become a global public health issue.Sleep quality plays a particularly important role in the physical and mental development of middle school students.Good sleep quality is an important guarantee for individual physical and mental health,and it is vital to promote the healthy physical and mental growth of the secondary student population and to improve learning ability and efficiency.This study explores the influence of the use of short videos on middle school students’ sleep quality.Combining with self-control and bedtime procrastination,it explores the internal mechanism of influencing middle school students’ sleep quality.On this basis,it explores whether group psychological counseling can improve middle school students’ self-control ability and further improve their sleep quality.This study consists of two parts.Study 1: The relationship between short video use,self-control,bedtime procrastination and sleep quality.In this study,1943 middle school students in Hunan,Guangdong,Anhui and Fujian provinces were investigated by using Short Video Use Intensity Scale,Brief Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Scale,Brief Self-Control Scale and Bedtime Procrastination Scale,and 1837 valid questionnaires were collected.The results show that:(1)Middle school students’ level of short video use is at a moderate to low level;middle school students’ self-control is near to a moderate level;middle school students’ level of sleep procrastination is at a moderate to low level;secondary school students’ overall sleep quality is poor and the length of sleep is seriously inadequate.(2)Short video use not only affects middle school students’ sleep quality directly,but also indirectly through the mediating role of self-control.(3)Short video use not only affects middle school students’ sleep quality directly,but also indirectly through the mediating role of bedtime procrastination.(4)Self-control and bedtime procrastination play a chain intermediary role between short video use and middle school students’ sleep quality.Study 2: A study on group counseling intervention of middle school students’ self-control.According to the investigation results and related theoretical models of the first study,combined with the characteristics of middle school students’ physical and mental development,aiming at improving middle school students’ self-control ability,eight themes of psychological group counseling were designed from three aspects: cognitive,emotional and behavioral.In order to make the group counseling more targeted,forty junior high school students with near-medium level of self-control were selected for the study,and randomly divided into experimental and control groups of 20 students each,in which students in the experimental group received group counseling once a week for 1.5 hours for a period of 8 sessions,while the control group did not give any intervention.After the group psychological counseling,the pre-and post-test differences between the two groups were compared.The results showed that group counseling could significantly enhance the middle school students’ self-control ability and improve their sleep quality.General conclusion:(1)The use of short videos can directly affect the sleep quality of middle school students and also indirectly through self-control and bedtime procrastination.(2)Group counseling for self-control can effectively improve secondary school students’ self-control level. |
