| The 2022 edition of the Compulsory Education Mathematics Curriculum Standards in China states that elementary school mathematics is a comprehensive curriculum, and that mathematics learning should guide students to discover and ask questions in real situations, use a combination of independent thinking and cooperative inquiry, and encourage students to do hands-on work. The interdisciplinary, contextual, and practical nature of STEAM is in line with the curriculum standards. The integration of STEAM education concept into mathematics teaching practice is conducive to cultivating students’ core mathematical literacy, improving students’ comprehensive problem-solving skills, and injecting fresh blood into elementary school mathematics teaching design. Therefore, this study integrates STEAM education concepts into elementary school mathematics to provide reference for front-line teachers’ instructional design. This paper compares the current status of STEAM education research at home and abroad, defines STEAM-related concepts, and designs the "Questionnaire on the Current Situation of STEAM Education in Primary Mathematics" for teachers, the "Teacher Interview on the Current Situation of Primary Mathematics Teaching Based on STEAM Education" for teachers, and the "Questionnaire on the Current Situation of Primary Mathematics Teaching Based on STEAM Education" for students."The questionnaire was designed to understand teachers’ knowledge of STEAM education concept and students’ interest in mathematics learning, and to find teaching methods that meet students’ learning needs and teachers’ practical ability. The following conclusions were drawn from the survey.(1)At present, elementary school mathematics teachers are aware of interdisciplinary and integrated applications, but do not have a systematic understanding of the STEAM education concept.(2)Elementary school students are very interested in classes with interdisciplinary elements and are initially capable of collaborative group inquiry. However, the development of STEAM education in elementary school mathematics classrooms has not been smooth due to the shortage of relevant teaching resources, teaching time constraints and other objective and subjective factors. In this paper,we analyze the mathematics textbooks for the first and second grades of the fifth grade of the Renminbi edition, and present the knowledge of STEAM concepts contained in the textbooks from two perspectives: the content and the arrangement of the textbooks.Based on the above research and textbook analysis,a teaching design model of elementary school mathematics based on STEAM education concept is designed.Under the guidance of this model,"Addition and Subtraction of Fractions with Different Denominators" in the second book of the fifth grade and "Motion of Figures" in the second book of the sixth grade of elementary school mathematics are selected as teaching backgrounds and materials, and cases with problem-based and project-based approaches are designed respectively to provide teachers with certain reference for teaching. The cases are designed with problem-based and project-based approaches to provide teachers with some reference. Therefore, the teaching design based on STEAM education concept is a new opportunity and challenge for teachers. On the one hand, teachers need to update their educational philosophy, deeply understand the connotation and value of STEAM education concept, actively and positively integrate STEAM education concept in mathematics teaching, and combine mathematical knowledge and application ability, mathematical thinking and problem-solving ability, and mathematical emotion and value.Organic integration. |
