Since the implementation of the relocation policy for poverty alleviation in relocated areas, many poor people in economically backward areas have moved to cities, which has solved the housing problem for residents. However, they still face great pressure in terms of life and economy. In order to maintain the basic needs of family life, young people have to choose to go out to work.Limited by their educational level, they can choose fewer types of work, and the working hours are not stable due to the busy work and heavy tasks,so there is little time to accompany children. Therefore, children stay in the registered residence to be taken care of by relatives,so there are a large number of left behind children. At the same time, due to the long-term lack of communication between left-behind children and their parents,left-behind children are prone to inferiority complex, fear, reluctance to communicate with others, irritability, low communication initiative, and poor prosocial behavior during peer interaction, all of which can affect their peer interaction abilities. The peer communication ability of left-behind children has a direct impact on their personality, behavioral habits, learning, and mental health.Such a long-term trend can easily lead to depression, refusal to communicate,or behavioral bias among left-behind children, and also have a significant impact on their physical and mental health and growth. It can be seen that effectively improving the peer communication ability of left-behind children deserves attention. This study takes left-behind children aged 7 to 12 years old in a poverty alleviation and relocation community in M Yi Prefecture as the research object.Using questionnaire survey, observation, interview, and experimental methods,it is intended to understand the problems and causes of the left-behind children’s peer communication ability.Based on the empowerment theory and the advantage perspective theory, this paper conducts a practical research on the improvement of left behind children’s peer communication ability from four dimensions: improving their communication initiative ability, improving their emotional regulation ability, improving their communication and expression ability, and cultivating their prosocial behavior ability.Using a group work method,an activity was conducted with the theme of "working together with one heart" to improve peer communication skills.Through a pretest,left-behind children with no significant differences in peer communication skills were selected and randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group.Members of the experimental group participated in the group activity. After the activity was completed,a post test comparison of peer communication skills was conducted between the experimental group and the control group members to evaluate the effect of group service intervention. Finally, the research is summarized and reflected. The research results show that the intervention of group work has effectively improved the ability of communication initiative, emotional regulation, communication and expression, and prosocial behavior of the left-behind children in the experimental group, and finally the ability of peer communication of the left-behind children has been significantly improved.
