Huang Shaoji is an outstanding educator and thinker in modern Wenzhou,and also a pioneer of modern education in China.After the Sino-Japanese War,Huang Shaoji,under the influence of Zhang Zhidong,Kang Youwei and others,joined the ranks of education to save the country and made remarkable contributions to the development of modern education in China,and formed his unique educational thought.Therefore,this paper takes Huang Shaoji as the object of study and analyzes the background,evolution and essential characteristics of Huang Shaoji’s educational thought in the context of the great educational changes in the late Qing Dynasty,so as to expand the teaching resources of the local history curriculum.This study consists of three main parts: the introduction,the main text,and the conclusion.The introductory section introduces the origin and significance of the selected topic,compares the current status of research on Huang Shaoji and local characters in history teaching at home and abroad,and explains the research content and methodology of this paper.The main text consists of four chapters.Chapter 1 introduces the background of Huang Shaoji’s educational thought.It introduces Huang Shaoji’s family origins,his father Huang Tifang and the Yongjia school,and Huang Shaoji’s most important colleagues in education,Zhang Zhidong and Sun Yizheng,which are the cornerstones of Huang Shaoji’s educational ideology.The second chapter mainly explores the process of Huang Shaoji’s acceptance of Western education.Taking the Sino-French War,the Sino-Japanese War,and the Reformation as important points,it elaborates on Huang Shaoji’s gradual acceptance of Western knowledge and his subsequent commitment to education.In the practice of education,Huang Shaoji’s educational ideas gradually developed and matured.Chapter 3 analyzes the characteristics of Huang Shaoji’s educational thought.Based on Huang Shaoji’s education-related writings such as "History of Chinese Education" and "Examples of Vernacular Education",it analyzes the ideological concepts in education historiography,teacher education and vernacular education in the light of the dynamics of the development of ideas in the education sector in the late Qing Dynasty.Chapter 4 is a case study design for teaching vernacular history with Huang Shaoji as an example.An inquiry-based learning approach is used to design a case study for teaching local history.Students explore the background of Huang Shaoji’s life,his friendship network and educational contributions in the context of relevant historical events of the late Qing Dynasty,so as to broaden the perspective of the vernacular and cultivate family sentiments on the basis of consolidating the modern history.In the concluding section,a general assessment of Huang Shaoji’s educational thought is presented,along with expectations for teaching local history using Huang Shaoji as an example and expanding the influence of Huang Shaoji’s character.On the whole,although Huang Shaoji’s educational thought has the shortcomings of his time,his life has been devoted to the education of China in modern times and his educational achievements are outstanding.In the context of the current implementation of the new curriculum,using Huang Shaoji as an example to carry out local teaching has important practical and reference significance for the generation of core literacies such as students’ family and country feelings.
