The core mission of postgraduate education is to cultivate high-quality innovative and academic talents dedicated to scientific research. The quality of high-quality postgraduate education can enhance the international status of China’s higher education, which is also the expectation raised by the country and society on the quality of postgraduate education.Academic postgraduates play a vital role in cultivating high-quality innovative talents and promoting scientific and technological development, and they actively participate in major national scientific and technological projects and major technological research, which are crucial in promoting scientific and technological progress and economic and social development. Therefore,it is of great value and significance to focus on the research performance of academic postgraduates. This study adopted the literature research method, systematically sorted out and summarized the literature on research performance at home and abroad, took job performance theory and social cognitive theory as the theoretical basis, obtained the evaluation system of research performance and its influencing factors indicators on the basis of the mature scales of previous authors, then compiled questionnaires and conducted research;using the questionnaire method, interview method and statistical analysis method, took academic master’s students of J University as The data were analysed by one-way ANOVA,Pearson’s correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis, while semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 postgraduates. The results of the quantitative and qualitative analyses were integrated to fully explore the current situation of research performance and its influencing factors among academic master’s students, and inductive analyses were conducted to draw conclusions. The results show that academic master’s students’ research attitude performance is generally at a high level, with students having positive and affirmative attitudes towards engaging in scientific research;the level of research behaviour performance is generally at a high level, with postgraduate students being more motivated and involved in scientific activities;the performance in terms of research outcomes is unsatisfactory, with the number and quality of student publications being at a low level.Among the demographic factors, gender, grade level, professional category, quality of the student population, and student achievement all have significant effects on the research performance of academic master students, but students with different spans of undergraduate majors do not show statistically significant differences in their research performance.Combining the results of the quantitative and qualitative studies, the influence of the individual characteristics of the research participants on research performance is a prerequisite factor in terms of influencing factors.Among the individual characteristics, research interest is the most crucial and its contribution to research performance is the most obvious. After the role of research interest, goal orientation also plays an important role.Among these, the influence of learning goal orientation is more pronounced compared to the influence of performance goal orientation.Secondly, the supervisor factor played an irreplaceable role in promoting the research performance of Master’s students. The academic level and the frequency and quality of supervision of supervisors all had a positive effect on students’ research performance, while the frequency and quality of supervision had a more prominent effect on postgraduate students.Thirdly, organisational factors do not have a large direct impact on academic master’s students’ research performance, but the research climate and research resources have a subtle impact on students.Research climate has a greater effect on research performance than research resources. This paper analyzes the problems and causes of the scientific research of postgraduates in conjunction with the interview results, namely, the lack of scientific research autonomy of postgraduates, the inadequate role of tutors in leading postgraduates, and the imperfect research support mechanism of the organization. The paper also puts forward targeted suggestions from three aspects: firstly,"individuals" should strengthen their research autonomy and cultivate good research quality;secondly,"supervisors" should enhance their sense of responsibility and pay attention to the way of talent cultivation;thirdly,"organizations" should improve the evaluation of research.Thirdly,"organisations" should improve their research evaluation mechanisms and create a good research environment. In this way, individuals, supervisors and the organization can play a synergistic role to promote the scientific research performance of academic master students.
