Despite the emphasis on compulsory basic education for all children in the Sustainable Development Goals,there remain significant concerns over Female academic performance at secondary school level at pastoral communities in Ethiopia.The study seeks to investigate the major influencing factors of female students’ academic performance at secondary school in pastoral communities of Rayitu District,Ethiopia.The study has four research objectives which was assessed the attitudes of Parents/communities towards female’s education in pastoral community,school related constraints on female students’ academic performance,to explore the level of female students’ in academic performance and cultural factors influencing female academic performance at Rayitu’ district secondary school.A qualitative research approach and a case study research design were implemented.Purposive sampling procedures was be used to select 15 respondents.Interviews focus group discussions and previous record document analysis was used during data collection.Data analysis was done using thematiccontent analysis to explore the findings.The researcher found that school related student perceptions on their academic performance,family and community related factors in the pastoralist community were found the most influential factors on their academic performance.Absence of female model teacher in the secondary school also other factors demotivate the female students in their academic performance.In addition to this,serious Lack of availability of and access to schools,shortage of classrooms,lack of qualified teachers and limited model teachers represent some of the supply side barriers to education to mention a few.Pastoralists with no fixed place of residence are most likely not to enroll their children to school and even if they enroll their children in school it is less likely that they will complete a full academic year.
