Travel essays usually revolve around "specific places visited," so combining texts about the same location provides a new approach to group reading teaching.At present,the research results of group reading teaching are relatively abundant.However,there is still insufficient research on the practice of group reading teaching of ancient travel essays with the same writing object.In order to explore the process,content,methods,and effects of this type of group reading teaching,the researcher designed and conducted the following teaching experiments and research.The article selected Su Shi’s Exploring of the Stone Bell Mountain,a classical travel essay in the third unit of the required course of the high school language textbook compiled by the Ministry of Education.The researcher carried out a comparative study of group reading teaching experiments,and designed two types of group reading teaching: one was to use "the origin of the name of Stone Bell Mountain" as the topic and combine related texts about Stone Bell Mountain as the writing object.The main texts included Luo Hongxian’s Traveling of Stone Bell Mountain,Zeng Guofan’s Stone Bell Mountain Name Study,and Yu Yue’s Spring in Hall Notes,etc.The other was to use "the literary and philosophical thoughts of ancient landscape travel essays" as the topic and combine ancient travel essays in the high school language textbooks of the People’s Education Press and the Ministry of Education with the same theme,such as Su Shi’s First Visit to the Red Cliff and Wang Anshi’s Tour of Mount Baochan.With the help of quasi-experimental teaching methods,the researcher conducted a group reading teaching experiment of ancient travel essays in a high School in Jinjiang for the first-year high school students.The experimental groups were divided into two: one was the experimental group using "exploring the origin of the name of Stone Bell Mountain" as the topic,and the other was the control group using "the literary and philosophical thoughts of ancient landscape travel essays" as the topic.On this basis,the researcher used IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0 to analyze the test scores of the students in the "ancient travel essay test" and the score of the "ancient travel essay learning" evaluation scale.The results showed that the test scores of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group.Based on the content of the interviews with the students,the researcher reached the following conclusions: in high school Chinese classes,group reading teaching of ancient travel essays that combine texts about the same location can greatly help students improve their Chinese scores.However,because it involves many extracurricular classical Chinese texts,with a wide range and diverse types,it places higher demands on students’ knowledge of classical Chinese grammar and their ability to summarize and extract information while reading,so it is more suitable for students with higher Chinese literacy skills.
