In recent years,many national policies have been introduced to promote programming education,which can effectively cultivate students’ computational thinking and creative problem-solving skills,and its importance cannot be overstated.However,several studies have shown that programming education in elementary school is still test-based,and students generally suffer from a lack of motivation and low learning efficiency.Therefore,innovative teaching methods have become an urgent problem.With the continuous promotion of education informatization,many novel teaching methods have been born,and the game-based teaching mode is welcomed by teachers and students for its fun and vivid characteristics.This study takes learning motivation as the starting point and tries to build an ARCS-based game-based teaching model,aiming to enhance and maintain students’ learning motivation,improve the learning effect,and change the problems of single teaching method,boring classroom and students’ lack of motivation at the present stage of elementary school programming teaching.The study first collated and analyzed the current status of research related to ARCS motivation model and gamified teaching through literature research method,sorted out the research theories,and identified the effectiveness of ARCS-based gamified teaching model on enhancing the learning motivation level of elementary school students in Kitten programming as the research question.Based on the question,this study chose literature research method,questionnaire method,interview method,classroom observation method and comparative experiment method to design the research idea;secondly,the author designed questionnaires from four dimensions of ARCS to understand the current situation of students’ learning motivation,and through teacher interviews to understand the current teaching status and the feasibility of implementing the gamified teaching model,and organized the existing gamified teaching models through literature research method.The characteristics of existing gamified teaching models and common game elements are summarized,and the model design principles of this study are proposed on the basis of existing theoretical models of gamified teaching.On this basis,the author combined the four elements of the ARCS motivation model and constructed the ARCS-based game-based teaching model under the guidance of constructivist learning theory and learning motivation theory;the study also put the ARCS-based game-based teaching model into practice for two months in two fifth grade classes in elementary school to verify its effectiveness.The results showed that students’ learning motivation levels in terms of attention,relevance,self-confidence,and satisfaction were significantly increased,and both teachers and students were satisfied with the gamified teaching model.In summary,the ARCS-based gamification teaching model has significant effects on enhancing students’ learning motivation level,and this study also provides some reference and reference for the practice of gamification teaching model in elementary school programming teaching and its research. |
