The More Confident You Are,the Happier You Will Be:A Study On The Influence Of Economic Self-Efficacy On Farmers’ Subjective Happiness

Most of the farmers with a large base are still in the low-income class.How to improve the farmers’ sense of happiness after poverty relief in China is of great theoretical and practical significance.Under the background of interdisciplinary research of psychology,sociology and economics,due to the limited explanatory power of external factors on happiness,this paper starts with the internal factor of farmers’ economic self-efficacy to study the relationship between individual economic self-efficacy and their subjective well-being.Using the survey data of 396 apple growers in two villages in Fuxian County,Shaanxi Province in 2021,this paper uses OLS regression method to analyze the impact of farmers’ economic self-efficacy on their subjective well-being.The OLS regression results show that the higher the farmers’ economic self-efficacy,the higher their subjective well-being.In the study of the impact mechanism of farmers’ economic self-efficacy on their subjective well-being,we found that the chain intermediary mechanism of farmers’ economic self-efficacy on their subjective well-being is mainly divided into two categories: one is that farmers perceive that behavior pressure negatively affects farmers’ subjective well-being after they borrow money;The other positively affects the subjective well-being of farmers through their prosocial behavior and their sense of gain.The regression results were tested for robustness based on the change of OLS model as Logit model,the change of economic self-efficacy variable as general self-efficacy variable,and the change of subjective well-being measurement method.The results all passed the robustness test.This paper also analyzes the heterogeneity of farmers with different gender,education level,age,labor input and marital status,and finds that the sense of economic self-efficacy of male,low education level,elderly,low labor input and married farmers plays a more significant role in improving their subjective well-being.The government should actively guide farmers to establish a healthy concept of income.At the micro level,the government should broaden farmers’ sales channels,provide good employment security,and reasonably plan family assets;At the macro level,the government should strengthen farmers’ sense of social responsibility and social participation,and improve their good perception of the social environment.Based on the research conclusions of the two kinds of influence mechanisms,we can help farmers build confidence and improve their subjective initiative on the basis of improving the cultural literacy of farmers,so as to form an endogenous development momentum,and then improve the happiness of farmers.
