In recent years, with the accelerated pace of life and the popularization of twosalary families, many young parents have to put more energy into work.At the same time,China’s current social childcare services are not perfect, and the childcare rate is low. Therefore,in an environment where children’s parents are hampered by work and the public resources for child care are insufficient, young parents have given their children to the care of the elderly a lot of realistic logic, and this has also become a common choice for many families under the current core family model. However,in the context of the country’s promotion of healthy aging, the impact of intergenerational care on the elderly deserves attention. At present, scholars at home and abroad focus on the impact of intergenerational care on the physical and mental health of the elderly in the field of research on the impact of intergenerational care on the elderly, and discuss that intergenerational care will increase their economic pressure and mental pressure only from the perspective of the contribution of their grandparents.Based on the above observation of the social situation and the analysis of relevant literature, this paper hopes to explore the economic impact of intergenerational parenting on grandparents, and make contributions to a more comprehensive understanding of the impact of intergenerational parenting from the perspective of intergenerational economic transfer between grandparents and children.First of all, this paper uses the CHARLS2018 micro-investigation data and the multiple linear regression model to analyze the impact of intergenerational parenting time on the net value of intergenerational upward economic transfer.Secondly,on this basis,by consulting and analyzing the relevant literature on the relationship between the grandparents’ annual income, grandparents’ pension and intergenerational rearing behavior, and intergenerational support,it is concluded that the grandparents’ annual income and grandparents’ pension play an intermediary and regulatory role in the impact of intergenerational rearing on the net value of intergenerational upward economic transfer, respectively, and then the existence of intermediary and regulatory effects is confirmed through empirical tests.Thirdly, this paper distinguishes between urban and rural areas and between eastern and western cities, and continues to explore the impact of intergenerational parenting duration on the net value of intergenerational upward economic transfer, which confirms that the impact between the two is different in different regions. Finally, the robustness test is carried out to ensure the reliability of the research results in this paper.Based on theoretical and empirical analysis, this paper draws the following conclusions:(1)Whether the grandparents participate in intergenerational care and the length of participation will significantly affect their net intergenerational economic transfer from their children, and it is a positive promotion;(2)Contemporary intergenerational rearing behavior has strong economic attributes. From the perspective of economics,it can be regarded as the work of grandparents in the family, that is,the length of intergenerational rearing is the work of grandparents, and the net value of intergenerational economic transfer is the return of their work;(3)Grandparents’ pension will reduce the remuneration paid by their grandparents to their children for the time of intergenerational care, and the payment of pension will squeeze out the financial support that the children who need to be cared for will need to give back, which will reduce the economic pressure of the children and women to a certain extent;(4)The impact of intergenerational childcare duration on the net value of intergenerational upward economic transfer is affected by geographical factors, with regional differences.Compared with rural areas and eastern cities, cities in the central and western regions, intergenerational childcare has a greater impact on the net value of intergenerational upward economic transfer.
