The World Health Organization(WHO)has redefined the concept of human health in 1989,which includes physical health,mental health,social adaptability and moral health.Adaptability has become one of the standards for measuring human health.Due to the influence of learning atmosphere,living environment and cultural level,freshmen in the higher vocational college who are in the critical period of environmental change and role transformation are prone to have prominent adaptation problems.To certain extent,high vocational colleges should pay an adequate attention to the adaptability improvement of freshmen in the student work,to pointedly carry out mental health education combined with the current situation of freshmen in the new period,to scientifically and feasibly explore the new models of student work and make up for the insufficiency of traditional student work mode.The study mainly focuses on the adaptability improvement of first-year students in the higher vocational colleges.Taking a vocational college in Yangjiang as an example,all the freshmen in 2019 were selected as service objects through psychological assessment.By means of statistics analysis,the adaptation problems of freshmen were analyzed and their actual needs were summarized.By studying the students’ current adaptation situation during the first-year campus life and analyzing the limitations of the traditional education model in improving adaptive faculty,and exploring methods on enhancing college students adaptability by group work,the effectiveness and possibility of group work in improving the adaptability of freshmen was explored.Through comprehensive evaluation of the member satisfaction,staff performance,intervention process and effect,the feasibility and necessity of group work intervention was proved.At present,the most commonly used methods for improving first-year college students adaptability are psychological intervention and ideological and political management intervention.In this study,through active appointments,open recruitment,screening,and teacher’s recommendation,10 freshmen with adaptive problems were selected to form a growth group.From the perspective of social work intervention with group work method,students with adjustment problems were intervened.In the process of service,a freshmen adjustment counseling group with positive influence was established to provide service clients with group support based on their own resources and abilities of effective communication and mutual study,to help service objects form a positive attribution tendency in activities,to enhance their ability to discover advantages,identify positive resources and transform bad emotions,and to maximize their potential.Through the interactive activities of the peer group,it effectively alleviates the in-adaptation symptoms of the objects and achieves the goal of personal and group growth.According to the research,it is proposed that the group work of the peer support is feasible in higher vocational colleges to improve the adaptability of freshmen.In the intervention process,the fully participation in the interaction of the service objects should be highly valued.
