Transferable ability refers to those abilities that can be applied to different situations.Paying attention to the cultivation of transferable ability has become a new trend in graduate education practice in developed countries. In the context of China’s higher education, serving as college student cadres is a special way to improve their ability. As a group to help schools provide education, management, services and other functions, student cadres are more likely to train and improve their transferable ability through practice, especially graduate student cadres. However,in the face of the question whether being a student cadre can improve the mobility of graduate students,we can’t answer it only by experience and impression. Therefore, through empirical research, this paper intends to clarify whether serving as student cadres can improve the migration ability of graduate students; If it can be improved, further answer the question of its promotion mechanism. This study uses the explanatory timing design in the mixed research method.First,it uses the way of quantitative research to solve the problem of whether serving as student cadres can improve their transferable ability, that is based on the 10497 sample data of the SDOMS in 2021,it quantitatively evaluates the impact of serving as graduate student cadres on the acquisition of transferable ability. The study found the following two points: first, being a student cadre can significantly improve the transferable ability of graduate students.Second, there are differences in the transferable ability of graduate cadres at different levels. The second is to answer the mechanism question of how to improve the transferable ability of graduate students as student cadres by means of qualitative research, that is,based on the semi-structured interview data of 21 graduate student cadres from H University,a total of 170000 words, encoded by classical grounded theory,a theoretical model of the mechanism for improving the transferable ability of graduate cadres is generated. This part of the study found that the improvement of the transferable ability of graduate student cadres is realized through the joint action of practical level and cognitive level.Practice and understanding influence and promote each other, and play a direct role in improving the transferable ability. The organizational level indirectly improves the transferable ability by influencing the individual level composed of practice level and understanding level. The organization has a strong role in promoting the improvement of practice and understanding level. The conclusion of this study confirms the significance of being a graduate student cadre for the promotion of transferable ability, and generates the experience process diagram of being a graduate student cadre. Finally,on this basis,we get the theoretical model of the promotion mechanism of transferable ability of graduate cadres. The findings of this study enable the graduate group to scientifically understand the role of serving as student cadres and understand the ability development track of student cadres, which is helpful to promote the graduate group to join the student cadre organization,so as to improve personal quality and enhance personal employment competitiveness. For the school, this study provides a specific channel for the school to achieve the goal of scientific training of graduate student cadres. At the social level, this study can effectively break the stereotype of graduate student cadres and reverse the social stereotypes of this group.
