In August 2020,Wang Dengfeng,Director General of the Department of Physical Education,Health and Arts, proposed that the reform of school sports in China should focus on "teaching, practising hard and playing often",while after-school sports homework is a very important part of school sports teaching. The second classroom is an important channel for the implementation of "teaching, practising diligently and competing often".Reasonable and effective after-school PE homework can help students consolidate the skills they have learnt in class and exercise their own physical abilities, while also helping teachers to better understand the development of students so that they can make timely adjustments to the subsequent teaching sessions. Therefore, incorporating "teaching, practising and competing" into after-school PE assignments is not only an implementation of "teaching, practising and competing",but also an improvement of after-school PE assignments. In order to achieve the goal of "teaching, practising and competing" and to improve the effectiveness of after-school PE assignments, this paper proposes a new type of after-school PE assignments,"teaching, practising and competing",which mainly consists of "student pre-training before class + student practice after class + weekend competition + appropriate amount of physical exercises".The effect of the new after-school PE homework on students’ skill mastery and fitness level in junior secondary school was taken as the object of the study, and experimental research methods such as literature, interview, experiment and mathematical statistics were used to study the effect of the new after-school PE homework.Students from two classes of the junior secondary section of Nanning T School were randomly selected for the experimental study. The new after-school PE homework assignments(experimental group)and the regular after-school PE homework assignments(control group)were conducted for 13 weeks in each class to investigate the effects of the new after-school PE homework assignments on students’ skill acquisition and fitness levels. The results of the experiment showed that:There was a significant difference in the improvement of students’ overall physical fitness level in the general after-school PE work, and a significant difference in the improvement of skill mastery level for boys(P<0.05)and no significant difference for girls(P>0.05),while there was a significant difference in the improvement of skill mastery level and physical fitness level in the new after-school PE work(P<0.05),and a significant difference in the improvement of skill mastery level between the experimental group and the control group(P<0.05).There was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in terms of skill acquisition level(P<0.05)and in terms of physical fitness level.Based on the results of the experiment, this paper draws the following conclusions.(1)General after-school PE homework is,on the whole, effective in improving students’ fitness levels. It has a certain effect on the skill mastery of male students, but the effect on female students is weaker.(2)The new after-school PE assignments that implement the guiding principle of "teach, practise hard and compete often" are more effective in improving secondary school students’ skill acquisition and fitness levels than the ordinary after-school PE assignments that do not fully implement the guiding principle of "teach, practise hard and compete often".(3)When implementing "teach, practise hard and play often",it is important to integrate "teach, practise hard and play often" with after-school PE work as a whole, rather than simply using PE work as a way to implement "practise hard"."(4)Whether it is after-school PE work or after-school PE work(4)Regardless of whether or not the after-school PE assignments implement "teach, practise hard and play often",the gender and level differences between students should be fully taken into account when assigning the assignments,so that students can be grouped according to their gender and level differences as far as possible and practice and compete at the appropriate level according to the specific level of the group.
