In the context of rapid development in China,a large number of young rural laborers have migrated to cities, leading to increasing levels of low self-esteem among left-behind girls. This paper explores the methods and approaches of social work intervention in the self-esteem issues of left-behind girls.Providing volunteer services for left-behind girls, creating a harmonious and loving living environment, and establishing a long-term sustainable support network are essential. The network involves collaboration among parents, teachers, professional workers, and other stakeholders to provide support and assistance to left-behind girls at different levels of physical and mental health.By integrating resources from multiple sources, comprehensive support and help can be provided to left-behind girls to promote the elimination of their self-esteem issues and encourage them to face life positively. This study aims to explore case work intervention to solve the problems of low self-esteem in rural left-behind girls due to separation from parents and facing social discrimination.Based on the social support theory and the ecological systems theory, this study uses both case study and action research methods to conduct psychological and social treatment for a left-behind girl’s self-esteem issues. From the perspective of social support theory, social support can alleviate negative emotions and enhance individual stress resistance. In this study, the social worker established a good relationship with the client and her family, and provided necessary emotional and substantive support by conducting home visits and meetings. From the perspective of ecological systems theory,an individual’s mental health not only depends on internal factors(such as personal characteristics)but is also influenced by external environmental factors. In this study, the social worker eliminated misunderstandings about the client through discussions with the homeroom teacher and math teacher, learned about the difficulties and challenges encountered by the client in her studies, and provided the basis for formulating effective intervention measures.Additionally, the social worker organized social activities such as reading appreciation and children’s birthday parties to help the client resume normal life and promote her social development. The study findings provide reference values for social workers,parents,educators,left-behind girls, and other stakeholders to better understand and deal with the psychological problems of rural left-behind girls and provide more support and help for their healthy growth. Moreover, this paper provides guidance and support for practical recommendations and insights into social work intervention in self-esteem issues of left-behind girls, providing a reference and support for related research and practice.
