A Study On The Intervention Of Social Work In Social Support For The Left-behind Elderly In Tujia Rural Areas

Under the background of a large number of young and middle-aged rural labor force emigration and the hollowing out of the rural population,a large number of left-behind elderly people have emerged in rural areas.These elderly people face many difficulties in life and lack of social support,resulting in poor quality of life for left-behind elderly people in rural communities,especially in underdeveloped ethnic areas.Due to the uniqueness of ethnic minorities in China,this study attempts to apply professional methods of social work in rural communities in ethnic areas to find ways and methods to improve the social support network for the local left-behind elderly,so as to provide certain theoretical significance and practical discussion for solving the problem of social support for the left-behind elderly in ethnic areas.From the perspective of social support theory,this paper collected relevant data by literature research,participatory observation and semi-structured interview to learn about the social support status of the left-behind elderly Tujia people in Z village of Youyang County,and analyzed their deficiencies in economic support,life care and emotional comfort.On this basis,practical social work activities,including case work,group work and incubating and cultivating community social organizations,are adopted to improve the self-support ability of the left-behind elderly Tujia people in Z village of Youyang County by combining national culture and characteristics,helping them to link social resources,expand care support channels,enrich their spiritual and cultural life,and increase life quality guarantee.Improve their social support system.However,there are still some deficiencies in the research on social work’s involvement in social support for the elderly left behind in Tujia rural areas,such as narrow coverage of service provision,limited professional competence,insufficient endogenous development impetus,and limited support from community social organizations.Finally,through practical exploration and reflection,this paper summarizes the research mode of "national culture + supporting subject + subject ability" in which social work is involved in social support for the left-behind elderly in rural minority areas: We should make good use of ethnic culture,respect ethnic customs,and carry forward ethnic traditions,give full play to the supporting role of families,neighbors,clans,and community social organizations,and strengthen the capacity of the elderly left behind,social workers,and community social organizations.
