With the continuous development and changes of the contemporary world,the competition between countries has gradually developed into talent competition,and the demand for comprehensive talents has significantly increased.In this social context,STEM education has emerged and gradually become an important direction for the development of education in various countries.STEM education emphasizes the integration of science,technology,engineering,and mathematics,and emphasizes the cultivation of students’interdisciplinary thinking and practical abilities,in order to cultivate innovative and comprehensive talents with practical abilities for the country.As the backbone of talent cultivation in China,basic education undoubtedly bears the important task of cultivating young people with ideals,abilities,and responsibilities for the Party and the country in the new era.With the advancement of the new curriculum reform,compulsory education courses pay more attention to cultivating students’ innovative spirit and practical abilities,emphasizing the strengthening of the connection between teaching and social practice,and fully leveraging the unique educational function of practice.The "Chemistry Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)" has added interdisciplinary practical activities in the curriculum content to strengthen the collaborative educational function of the curriculum,strengthen practical requirements,and cultivate students’ core chemical literacy.This article is guided by the STEM education concept,combined with the basic characteristics of compulsory education chemistry,with the aim of developing students’ core literacy,and conducts a case design and research on interdisciplinary practice activities in junior high school chemistry to develop students’ core literacy from the perspective of STEM education.This study is mainly divided into the following parts:Ⅰ.This article elaborates on the origin of STEM education and the development of STEM education both domestically and internationally in recent years,deeply analyzes the connotation of STEM education,and summarizes the existing cases in China that apply STEM education concepts to chemistry teaching.Ⅱ.Explore the theoretical basis for STEM education concepts to guide the design of interdisciplinary practical activities,and define the core concepts involved in this study.Ⅲ.Thoroughly analyze the requirements of the "Chemistry Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)" for conducting interdisciplinary practice activities in junior high school chemistry,as well as the educational value of interdisciplinary practice activities in junior high school chemistry.The principles and general processes for designing interdisciplinary practice activities in junior high school chemistry to develop students’ core competencies from the perspective of STEM education.Ⅳ.According to the design process of junior high school chemistry interdisciplinary practice activities to develop students’ core literacy from the perspective of STEM education,the design of interdisciplinary practice activities was carried out by taking Water Quality Detection and Self-made Water Purifier and Classification and Recycling of Domestic Waste as examples,and the Delphi method was used to evaluate the case design.Ⅴ.By analyzing the evaluation results,it is concluded that the STEM education concept and existing STEM education cases do have guiding significance for the design and implementation of interdisciplinary practice activities in junior high school chemistry.A design strategy for interdisciplinary practice activities in junior high school chemistry is proposed to develop students’ core literacy from the perspective of STEM education.
