The implementation of large-unit teaching not only effectively integrates the core literacies of the subject with the teaching of the subject, but also facilitates students to make effective connections between learning and real-life situations. The 2022 edition of the Compulsory Education Curriculum Programme clearly states that "explore large-unit teaching",but the author has found, through literature review and practical investigation, that there are many practical problems with the current application of large-unit teaching in languages. However, through a review of the literature and a practical survey,I found that there are still many practical problems with the application of large units in language teaching, and that there is also little research on the implementation of large unit teaching strategies at the junior secondary level, and very limited case studies available for study. In this paper,we focus on the "large-unit teaching in junior secondary school" as the main object of study. We investigate the problems, analyse the causes, and explore the strategies of large-unit teaching in junior secondary school under the guidance of core literacy. The thesis is structured in six parts:The first part is the introduction, which introduces the reasons for choosing the topic, the significance of the study, the relevant research literature on "unit teaching" and "large unit teaching" at home and abroad, the purpose of the study, the content of the study, the methodology and the novelty of this paper. The second part, the first part of the full text, defines the main terms involved in this thesis, such as "core literacy" and "large unit teaching",and elaborates on theories such as "construct theory","general systems theory","contextual cognitive teaching theory" and "Bloom’s taxonomy of educational cognitive goals" as the theoretical basis for this study and to provide theoretical support for examining the implementation strategies of large unit teaching. The second section of the third part, the main text, gives a concise survey outline of the design of the middle school language large-unit teaching survey and, through the statistics of and analysis of the Survey data, grasps the current status of middle school language large-unit teaching and provides a data base for exploring strategies for implementing middle school language large-unit teaching. In the fourth part, the third chapter of the dissertation is a statistical analysis of the survey on middle school language teaching and large-unit teaching conducted in the secondary school in which the dissertation is practised, which reveals that there are mainly problems such as unreasonable integration of teaching contents,one-sided basis for determining teaching objectives, unilateral setting of learning activities, superficial creation of teaching contexts, and simplistic and formalised teaching evaluation methods. In The fifth part, the fourth chapter section of the main text is about strategies for teaching large units in junior secondary languages. It addresses the issues in Chapter 3,including integrating large-unit teaching materials to promote the fostering of students’ ability to think;developing large-unit teaching objectives to improve students’ proficiency in language;designing large-unit teaching activities to enrich the process of students’ cultural experience;creating large-unit teaching contexts to improve students’ aesthetic and perceptual skills;and promoting the development of multiple assessments to help develop students’ core literacy.Part One of the chapter five of the text is an example of a case study on the teaching of a large unit on the theme of "Tasting Famous Prose,Understanding Life’s Philosophies",which is based on the Unit 4 of the Unified Edition of the Chinese Language and Culture for Grade 8.
