Along with the promotion of the reform of compulsory education curriculum,the chemistry curriculum standard for compulsory education(2022 Edition)proposes to new requirements for chemistry teaching in junior middle school,attaches great importance to the cultivation of students’ core literacy in chemistry,and vigorously advocates the literature-oriented chemistry teaching.Moreover,in order to realize the transformation of literacy development,it clearly points out that teachers are supposed to attach importance to the whole teaching design and implement unit teaching reasonably.In this regard,the researches on the cultivation and implementation of the core literacy of chemistry in compulsory education are in the ascendant.However,when contrasting them with the traditional junior high school chemistry classes that many students receive today,these classes mainly belong to “class hour” teachings.And the students are facing with so many problems such as constructing chemical knowledge from a holistic perspective,understanding the logical bases,thought methods and value significance contained in chemical knowledge.Therefore,nowadays,the traditional chemistry teaching in junior middle school has been difficult to meet the requirements of the compulsory education curriculum reform and the latest curriculum standards.However,as a whole instruction which is different from the traditional single teaching mode or “class hour” teaching,the large unit teaching tries to break the traditional class hour design concept,takes “unit”as the overall unit of learning,and pays attention to the structural strength within “unit”and the system strength between “units”,and coincides with the requirements of the new curriculum standard.So firstly,this research combs exiting literature and finds that many scholars have explored from the implementation strategy of large unit teaching.And the researches of large unit teaching based on the core literacy of chemistry are also in full bloom.However,there are few researches focused on chemistry,especially for chemistry in the stage of compulsory education.On this basis,the research investigates the current situation of teachers on carrying out large unit chemistry teaching in junior high school by means of questionnaire,and finds that teachers’ understanding of large unit teaching needs to be further strengthened.But on the whole,they have a high attitude of recognizing that large unit teaching can develop students’ core literacy.Thus,the conclusion deepens and validates the necessity of carrying out large unit teaching practice.Later,on the basis of the existing research results,the research constructs the chemical large unit teaching framework by combining the core chemistry literacy in the stage of compulsory education.On this basis,the key point of this paper is put forward,that is,to establish the theme named “Explore the ancient and modern metal cultural relics and think about the future of metal cultural relics” as the theme of the large unit teaching design,and to pay attention to carry out teaching practice for a class of middle school students in Zhangjiakou after the course standard analysis,textbook analysis,students learning situation analysis by taking the content of “metal and metal materials” as an example,and to choose the other class with the same level of achievement for traditional teaching as the comparison class.Finally,through designing the scale and the test to come to the conclusion with the help of SPSS analysis of the results,to evaluate the teaching effect,and to reflect on the teaching practice.In addition,this paper understands students’ learning situation by interviewing students,and analyzes and summarizes the feedback of students’ learning experience.Finally,according to the scale survey data of the development of the students’ core literacy,it is found that chemical core literacy of the students in the two classes shows significant difference overall,and the improvement of the literacy of students in the experimental class is more obvious than that in the comparison class,especially in the two aspects.One is chemical concept,the other is scientific inquiry and practice.So it indicates that carrying out large unit teaching of chemistry in junior high school is beneficial to promote the development of students’ core literacy of chemistry.At the same time,according to the results of unit test,it is found that carrying out large unit teaching is also conducive to help students understand knowledge,and to promote the improvement of academic performance.According to the students’ interview answers,the design of large unit teaching is also helpful to stimulate students’ interest in learning.
