| Since the implementation of China’s “ universal two-child policy” in 2016,the group of mothers of second children has been expanding, and they face a lot of anxiety after the birth of their second child, yet they do not attract much attention.Second-child mothers’ anxiety is not alleviated in time, which affects their health physically and mentally,as well as their family relationships and child rearing. Therefore, this paper explores the role of social work interventions in relieving anxiety of mothers with second children in W community. In this study,we took the second-child mothers in W community of Nanzhang,Xiangyang City as the research subjects. We collected relevant data through questionnaires,semi-structured interviews and observations, analyzed the manifestations, causes and needs of second-child mothers’ anxiety, developed targeted service plans according to the needs, and adopted group work and community work to provide services for second-child mothers. At the end of the service, the group work was evaluated through controlled trials, group satisfaction forms and social worker observation. The community work was evaluated through activity feedback forms and feedback from the service users.Through a questionnaire survey of 80 mothers of second children in W community of Nanzhang County,Xiangyang and one-on-one interviews with some mothers of second children, the following findings were found:(1)The anxiety of mothers of second children in this community is manifested in the following four aspects: obvious anxiety and lack of self-regulation,irritability between parents and children, frequent conflicts with family members, narrower interpersonal interactions, and lower sense of self-worth;(2)Reasons for anxiety among mothers of second children in this community: stress of care, narrower social circle, increased economic pressure, insufficient emotional family care, and insufficient social attention;(3)The following needs exist for mothers of second children in this community: the need to learn to recognize and relieve anxiety, the need to broaden social support networks, the need to enhance the sense of self-worth,and the need to gain understanding and care from family members. The results of the study showed that firstly, mothers of second children in W community generally have different degrees of anxiety.According to the data of 80 surveys on the current situation of anxiety among mothers of second children,70% of mothers of second children sometimes or often feel anxious, and mothers of second children generally have different degrees of anxiety and have the need to relieve anxiety.Secondly, group work intervention can effectively relieve the anxiety of second-born mothers.SAS pretest and post test data from the experimental group of the group work revealed the following: using an independent sample t-test,the experimental group scored significantly lower than the control group after the group service, but there was no disparity between them, the statistical analysis of the post test scores of the anxiety scale of the experimental and control groups showed that there was a significant difference, and the anxiety level of the service users decreased after the group work intervention.Thirdly, community work intervention can expand the social support network for the second child and reduce the anxiety. In the community work,a series of community activities were conducted to increase the support of family members for mothers with second children and expand their community support network, which had the effect of alleviating anxiety. In addition, the study found that social support theory and ABC theory have theoretical guidance in social worker interventions for second-born mothers’ anxiety relief.ABC theory helps to correct second-born mothers’ biased perceptions, change perceptions and thus improve emotions.Social support theory helps second-born mothers to gain long-term community peer group support. |
