Fire safety education is a compulsory subject in today’s schools as it is vital to safeguard the lives and property of young people.As primary school students have little awareness of fire safety and are immature,fire safety education for primary school students is conducive to cultivating their safety awareness,expanding their comprehensive capabilities and achieving all-round development.At the present stage,there are two problems in the primary school safety education classroom,one is in the teaching mode,the teaching mode is relatively single,teachers use the traditional education concept and method to teach fire safety courses,multimedia resources are not fully utilized,most of the use of video and pictures to display.Secondly,in terms of practical operation,the contextual and realistic nature of traditional fire safety education is not strong,which is not conducive to primary school students’ mastery and application of fire safety knowledge.The Notice on Fire Safety Education in Primary and Secondary Schools issued by the Ministry of Education stipulates that fire safety education should combine theoretical knowledge with practical application,cultivate students’ self-inquiry and active learning abilities,and create an environment for their harmonious physical and mental development.Virtual Reality(VR)technology can virtualize the more severe and dangerous environments of real life,solving the difficult operational challenges of extreme environments,simulating real fire scenarios for fire safety education,and enabling students to carry out fire safety practice in virtual fire scenarios created by VR.In response to the problems of the destructive nature of fire and the weak practicality of fire,this paper reviews the literature related to the application development and research status of VR in primary and secondary school fire safety education at home and abroad,summarizes and organizes the main theoretical basis and practical application of VR in the application process of primary school fire safety education courses.Using questionnaire and interview methods to analyze the demand for VR educational games among teachers and students,a VR educational game for primary school fire safety was designed and developed based on the physical and mental development characteristics of primary school students,combined with the theoretical basis in pedagogy and with the help of VR technology and game development tools such as Unity3 D.The developed VR educational game for fire safety was applied to the grade six fire escape course for teaching application,and the experimental research method was used to investigate the effect of the VR educational game for fire safety in the fire escape classroom.The research data was collated and analyzed,and the results indicated that the classroom using VR educational games was more effective than the traditional classroom,specifically in that VR educational games were more likely to stimulate students’ enthusiasm and initiative in learning,help students efficiently grasp escape knowledge and skills,and improve the learning effect.Finally,a summary of the integration effect of VR technology and fire safety courses is made and further prospects for the application of VR technology in fire safety courses are provided. |
